A study of pomegranate health benefits by the researchers at the Heidelberg University in Germany has surprisingly revealed pomegranate contains special substances that could help women giving birth. The juice from this magic fruit was found to have substances that can strengthen the muscles in the female reproductive system.

According to Dr. Gertrude Neumann, pomegranate consumption may help successful delivery. Onset of labor is followed by the release of oxytocin hormone. In case of oxytocin deficiency, doctors would administer it to a parturient woman. These efforts, however, will always produce the required effect.
To relieve delivery pains, doctors may hopefully use pomegranate based medication in a near future to compensate for oxytocin deficiency. Previous studies also discovered health benefits of pomegranate for women. Pomegranate was found to provide lots of ellagitannins known as a remedy to prevent breast cancer.

Well having had three of my four births induced I can safely say that I would rather have some pomegranite than an oxytocin drip! I hope this does prove to be a genuine way to help women through giving birth without having to rely on drugs. We need all the help we can get in labour.
