Scientists from the University of North Carolina in the USA say breast milk may be the best way to suppress the HIV infection.
A team of specialists has created mice whose immune system worked similar to that of a human. Then the cells of the spinal cord, liver, and tissues were infected with HIV. However, if the rodents were fed with breast milk from HIV-positive women, the virus failed for some unknown reason.
Previous experiments have shown that breast milk has strong antiviral properties, but it was unclear whether it could resist HIV. Victor Garcia, the director of the project, said they revealed milk’s internal innate ability to kill HIV. He added they would have to search for the mysterious milk ingredient, which can suppress the virus.
