A report from an official in Madrid says that a ten-year-old girl delivered a baby in the South of Spain.
According to the information supplied by Micaela Navarro, social affairs minister on the region of Andalusia, the birth took place last week in a place called Jerez de la Frontera, but no other details about the baby are forthcoming yet. The newspapers add that the girl comes from a Romanian family and mothered the baby by another minor.
According to the Diario de Jerez, the girl’s mother told the paramedics who were attending to the baby that it is not unusual in their country to give birth at an early age.
Authorities, said Navarro, are looking into the matter to decide whether the baby will stay with the family.
