You fail to lose weight? This can be explained by a number of reasons: laziness, wrong method, self-deception or… genetics. If you have a problem, it is unlikely that you thought the tendency for obesity to have been programmed at the stage of your development in the womb. It has been proved now.

It is believed that the mother’s lifestyle before and during pregnancy can affect the health of the child in the long run. Her diet, the air that she breathes, alcohol, smoking – all of this can cause irreversible changes in the DNA of her unborn child. Metaphorically speaking, if we imagine that the first letters and words appear in the book of the child’s future life during pregnancy, they will remain unchanged. What can be changed is the punctuation, as the Daily Mail magazine writes.

Thus, the scientists from Newcastle University have proved that obesity predisposition may develop at the stage of fetus formation. The researchers analyzed blood samples of the children aged 9 to 11 years (the samples had been taken at birth). In particular, they were looking for genes that had the same sequence, but “behaved” differently in people with normal weight and overweight. It was found that DNA markers in obese children were different as early as at birth.

In their study, the researchers relied on the methods of epigenetics (which is yet a controversial science), studying changes in gene expression and cell phenotype caused by the mechanisms that do not involve changes in DNA sequence.

A young woman should get ready for the birth of a child from a very early age. But she should especially prepare her body during pregnancy.

Why Is Healthy Nutrition So Important during Pregnancy?

There is no need to convince anyone that proper nutrition for pregnant women is extremely important, because wrong nutrition (not balanced, not rational) can provoke the development of edema, increased blood pressure, impaired placental blood flow, nausea, vomiting, and so on. And it is not because of the woman being poisoned, but because of her vital processes being affected.

Consider the three super products for pregnant women, the regular consumption of which has a positive impact on the health of a woman and the formation of the fetus.

Rabbit Meat Is the Best for Pregnant Women

The first product is rabbit meat. It is in the rabbit meat that most protein is contained, which is 21% of the total weight. What is the function of the protein in the body? It contributes to construction, transportation, production of energy and performs the protective function of the enzyme. All immunoglobulins, all protective antibodies are proteins. And it is impossible to build a future body without protein!

Pregnancy is an amazing process, especially when you think what tremendous growth the fetus undergoes in a woman‘s body. From a completely invisible cell it turns into a human being weighing about 3 kg in just 9 months. Of course, this requires a protein. It is also worth saying that rabbit meat is the lowest in cholesterol and is the most hypoallergenic meat.

Eating Cottage Cheese during Pregnancy Provides Calcium

The second product is cottage cheese. Of course, the dairy products also include proteins, but the expectant mother and her baby are in special need of calcium, and cottage cheese is known to be a source of calcium. Calcium is the basis of bone formation, and its deficiency in pregnant women leads to two negative consequences: misformation of normal bones in the fetus and osteoporosis (calcium loss from bones) in the woman herself. Also, we should keep in mind that our bodies have tiny bones in the middle ear that are responsible for transmitting audio signals to the receptors in the brain. If the mother lacks calcium in the first three months of pregnancy, the child may be born deaf. And, of course, calcium is important for women during pregnancy because many women with the lack of calcium in the body start to suffer from crumbling teeth.

Broccoli Provides Pregnant Women with Folic Acid

The third product is broccoli. What is this product rich in? It is rich in vitamin B9 (folic acid). Folic acid is especially needed in the early stages of the fetus development (the formation of the nerve tissue and central nervous system). Moreover, formation of red blood cells and transfer of oxygen are impossible without folic acid. It turns out that there are two objectives to be achieved by introducing broccoli into the diet: forming the nervous tissue and fetal nutrition. In addition, this is a source of fiber, which is very important for the pregnant women, who are often predisposed to constipation.

How Much of These Foods Should a Pregnant Woman Eat Daily?

The question arises: what is the daily intake of these products? The diet of an expectant mother should contain a minimum of 100 grams of rabbit meat per day; there should be 100-150 grams of cottage cheese and 600 grams of broccoli. It will help to avoid constipation and will provide a solid foundation for the healthy cells of the future organs. The servings are small, but the expectant mother should eat varied foods to provide the child with all the components of biochemistry without gaining weight herself.

If your family dreams of having children, you should pay attention to such factors as your husband’s diet. The experts say that sperm quality can greatly increase the chances of vconception, and to improve its quality, one should follow certain rules of healthy eating.

The decrease in sperm concentration is caused by poor nutrition and obesity. These factors also affect the motility of sperm. Proper diet makes pregnancy much more likely.

Fruits and grains are an important component of men‘s nutrition, which increases the quality of sperm. But one should avoid red meat, coffee and alcohol.

The so-called “male factor” is currently very important in the treatment of infertility. Previously it was thought that almost everything depended on the woman, and the inability to conceive was often associated with obesity, smoking, and alcohol. Now, it seems that the same requirements should be presented to both partners.

The researchers insist that the sperm concentration is negatively influenced by such factors as body mass index and alcohol consumption. A positive effect on the concentration and motility of the sperm is observed after consuming grains, as well as practicing split meals (when the number of meals per day increases, and the size of the dishes gets smaller). This has been proved by the leading IVF researcher Edson Borges, working in Sao Paulo, as well as his colleagues in the UK. He studied 250 men, who had passed the IVF procedure. The results were encouraging! A diet with a lot of fruits and grains increases the chances of conception because the quality of sperm is improved by more than 40%.

Nutritionists warn that one should not give cow milk to infants because it is too salty for them. Cow milk contains 4 times more salt than breast milk.

Attention, young mothers! It is better not to give cow milk to babies till the age of 12 months! In comparison, the content of salt in breast milk is 15 mg per 100 ml, while cow milk has 55 mg per 100 ml. If your infant drinks about 750 ml of cow milk a day, it will receive 385 mg of salt, and that is almost half the maximum daily salt intake recommended for the infants under one year.

Accordingly, the researchers advise to reduce the amount of salt in other foods for the infants that drink cow milk instead of breastfeeding.

In general, the nutritionists from Bristol University, who have discovered how salty cow milk formula is, claim that consuming too much salt can lead to health problems in children. A large amount of salt in the diet increases blood pressure and causes kidney disorders.

The scientists advise mothers to give their children breast milk or special mixtures, but not cow milk!

The health of the future baby is determined by not only what the mother eats during pregnancy, but her diet long before conception as well.

This was proved by the Danish researchers from Aarhus University during the experiments on animals. The researchers had been forcing the mice to a low-protein diet for ten weeks before mating. While the mice were bearing their offsprings, they received their usual diet. The mousekins were born underweight and had an increased sensitivity to insulin which in the future could lead to a highly probable problem with type 2 diabetes. Also, it is proved that sensitivity to insulin often causes obesity in males.

The scientists believe that the results of the experiment may be relevant for people as well, though with some precaution. At least, when examining the influence of nutrition on the health of a future baby, the doctors obtained the same results from studying mice and human beings. That is why the women who are planning a child in the future are recommended not to stick to a strict diet for at least a few months before the alleged conception.

As Claudia Schiffer strutted over the red carpet at Cannes a few days ago, she certainly drew a lot of attention, and quite a lot of it was on the account of her figure. Many people were struck by her thinness; the word “gaunt” was very much in use. The Daily Mail said the supermodel looked “skinnier than ever”, and RadarOnline was shocked enough to call in a nutritionist for an expert opinion.

The expert, Majid Ali, hastened to exonerate himself to some extent by saying that he had not treated the famous model, but affirmed that, taking into consideration the fact that she gave birth to daughter Cosima last year, she was too fast dropping her pregnancy weight. Ali went by her face that he also called gaunt and by the skin around the arms that he said was too loose. Her abs looked puffed, he added, which is a sign of too scanty a diet.

The Mail made a point of harking back to Schiffer’s body image talk with the Bunte magazine five years ago where the mother of three recalled her beginnings when she was regarded as one of the fattest models. She went on to say that although at the time all of them strives to be thin, the thinness that is in nowadays looks wrong. “Today they are even thinner, which is unbelievable,” she said complaining of the boney effect. Has she now joined in with the modern trend?

Schiffer, 40, sported a transparent Dolce & Gabbana dress done in black lace at Cannes.

The children, whose mothers were eating improperly during pregnancy, are more inclined to corpulence.
As demonstrated by their study, in such cases the body of the child experiences epigenetic changes: the activity of genes that regulate fat metabolism is suppressed. And it does not matter whether the expectant mother has excess weight. The child of a slender mother, who was eating incorrectly, runs a stronger risk of being ill with obesity than the child of a woman with overweight, who was having a balanced and substantial diet during pregnancy.

As part of the British national movement against overweight and obesity, a team from the University of Reading conducted a study of how and in what quantity various categories of the population consume fresh fruits and vegetables, which are a necessary component of a balanced diet.

It became an unexpected discovery for the investigation organizers that childless families eat far more fruit and vegetables compared to those people who have experienced the joy of parenthood. However, it had been assumed to happen vice a versa, since the presence of children in a family seems to automatically imply balanced and nutritious meals.

At the same time the difference in this criteria was highly significant. According to the specialists’ calculations, husbands and wives, having no children, had eaten almost four kilograms more fruits and vegetables for thirty days than moms and dads in the same age category.

In other words, children’s presence in a family significantly reduces the amount of fruits and vegetables eaten by parents. The scientists believe that the main factor behind such a strange pattern is a “negative” impact on parents by their children who often refuse to eat broccoli or carrots. And the more children there are in the family, the less fruits and vegetables are consumed by their parents.

Foods preferred by prospective mothers influence the eating habits of their children in future. It is has been proved by a group of scientists from the University of Colorado (USA).

A pregnant woman’s diet affects the foetus and the development of its brain due to specific smells and tastes. Therefore, certain products later seem more attractive to the child and vice versa.

The author of the research, Dr. Josephine Todrank, states the importance of a healthy diet and alcohol avoidance during pregnancy and lactation. If a would-be mom consumes alcoholic drinks, her child may experience the consequences of alcohol addiction in future, because the developing foetus is “sure” that everything that comes from the mother is “a priori safe”. This fact has an important role in terms of healthy lifestyle strategies implementation among both children and adults.

A lot of women are afraid of gaining excess weight during and after pregnancy. The fear of becoming fat makes some women even delay pregnancy. But if you eat healthy food and live a healthy way of live, you will be able to avoid gaining weight during pregnancy – just follow our pregnancy diet tips.

Start the Day with a Healthy Breakfast

If pregnant women don’t have breakfast, or eat less food in the morning, then they may feel dizzy and will usually eat excess food afterwards. Also a good breakfast ensures that the baby gets the required calories, since you have slept for around 6 to 8 hours during the night without any food. Some people might tell you to have a meal during the night, but it’s unnecessary and can be solved by a healthy breakfast.

Have Disciplined Meals When Pregnant

Plan ahead and think what you are going to have for the rest of the day, so that you can ration your nutrients accordingly. If you go to work, carry healthy snacks like fruits, whole-grain crackers or carrot sticks. If a pregnant woman doesn’t plan, then they will probably end up eating whatever they feel like and thus gain excess weight.

Have Fibrous Foods Low in Fat and Sugar

Pregnant women could try canned fruits. You should also check the fat and sugar content in the labels. If you can’t help yourself from eating a sugar rich meal, you should also have something wholesome like milk; this inhibits an increase in blood sugar that might trigger fat storage processes. Sugar rich food usually makes pregnant women hungry in half an hour because of the production of insulin, but an intake of fiber ensures that they feel full; this also triggers excess fat removal.

Eat before attending a party or social event

If your stomach is somewhat full, you will most likely be able to avoid food that contributes to excess fat. Parties are usually filled with enticing but fatty food. You don’t want to gain excess weight by eating food you don’t need but are attractive.

Eat Before Shopping

Similar to the above strategy, this ensures that you don’t buy unnecessary food on whim. Stick to a shopping list and buy only what you need.

Pregnant women Should Eat Broiled, Baked or Steamed food

You should request your food like this in the restaurant; most often they will acknowledge the needs of a pregnant woman. Food cooked this way does not contribute to excess fat gain.

Sneak in Fruits into Theaters

Not only does this save money, but the food in theaters is fatty and sugar rich.

Drink Plenty of Water

Pregnant women often confuse dehydration with hunger. If you think you feel hungry despite eating healthy food, this is a sign that you are not drinking enough water. Water also has many other beneficial effects on the body.

Pregnant Woman Shouldn’t Eat for Two!

This is actually very common. People love to make pregnant women eat as much as they can and eat food they should not take. Avoid this and don’t eat trying to please others. A simple “thanks, but no, thanks” goes a long way and is polite.

Eat Carefully and Enjoy All Your Meals

Research has shown that on average a person will eat 750 more calories when they are eating with someone else. The reason is that when you are eating with someone else, you will usually be busy talking to that person or be engaged in something else; if you don’t mind what you are eating, you will definitely eat more. You can try the following method to both reduce the amount of food intake and increase the deliciousness of your meals: Chew your food for a long time and try to focus on exactly how the food tastes. You will realize that each bite is savory. You will eat less, but enjoy more.

Following these nutrition tips will help you avoid gaining excess weight during your pregnancy and enjoy your mother-to-be time!

Researchers advise not to intimidate young people but give them the right of choice. It is much more better to place less attractive but healthier meals at most prominent places in school cafeterias.

Practice has shown that students and pupils are more likely to feed sweetly on vegetable and fruit dishes if they are laid out in a plain view. In turn, foods that are not welcome by physicians should be placed behind healthy food in non-transparent containers.

Doctors have discovered the child has hormonal disorder. The experts fear that the boy’s heart may not stand such a rate of body increase.

The boy’s mom – Xiao Lin said that her son has a strong appetite: “He likes eating. He immediately puts anything he sees into his mouth”.

A special diet was prescribed after the boy’s mother has seen a doctor.

You have decided to change your diet and included healthy products. You now eat less fat, drink plenty of liquids… The rules are simple, and much has already been written about them. But the issue is that your husband and children are used to other foods and this has led you to continue delaying proper nutrition for a later time. But maybe there are ways to teach the whole family to eat healthy food?

Be creative in cooking

Surprise your household and then they will be more focused on the unusualness of new dishes and not on the things from what they are cooked. Let it be unusual sushi with vegetables and chicken, stuffed vegetables etc. Children, as well as men don’t usually like fish. Here, fantasy is also needed. Not just a piece of fish, but with an interesting sauce, or fish baked in an unusual way (in a bag or foil). This will be fun and make a useful menu to which you aspire.

You would have to cook longer

This is the only way to fully control the amount of consumed fat and calories. This of course will take more time, but your home will be delighted! Children always enjoy homemade cookies, including the cooking process, while men adore smells drifting from the kitchen. Homemade bread (from bread machine) smells wonderfully, so no one will notice that it is a healthy bread made from wholemeal and bran.

Gradually switch over to a home version of purchased products

We are talking about things like juices, cottage cheese, French fries. Your home will not notice much difference since they are used to drinking juices bought from supermarkets. Invest in a good juicer and offer home-made juices, they will definitely contain no dyes and preservatives. Do the same also with other usually purchased products. Replace them with home-made ones.

Visit the grocery store with the whole family

Let the kids and your husband see what products you choose, explain to them why you are buying these products. This is a great teaching moment. In the future you will not worry about your children’s health since they have learnt to choose healthy products.

Be a good example

Do not sigh that you are again giving up cakes. On the contrary, tell how good you have started feeling, say that you have lost weight, you sleep better, and so on. Then, everyone will copy your example by joining in this new and healthy diet.

Do not change the menu overnight

People do not like radical changes, this is stressful, and no one wants to part with habits especially when it comes to delicious meals. Therefore, show wisdom and patience and make a specified strategy for change of diet. Perform at least one item of the above mentioned per month – that’s enough.

Scientists from the University of Amsterdam have found that increasing the diet of a pregnant woman adversely affects the health of her baby. Namely, the limitation of food to the mother leads to a rapid aging of the baby’s brain.

For this experiment, scientists chose a group of people born in the Netherlands during the so-called “Hunger winter” of 1944, when the country was terribly hungry due to World War II. During this period, the diet of pregnant women was extremely poor and did not exceed the daily calorie content of 600-800 kcal.

The first such test was conducted in 1970-ies, but no major difference between the control group and the subjects was found. A second test, conducted after 40 years during which participants were asked to name the color of a word without thinking about its meaning, showed that people born after 1944 performed poorly in the test. Moreover, the control group did not experience such problems.

Ultimately, the researchers concluded that the degradation of the nerve tissues of the brain occurs faster in people whose mothers restricted their diet or were addicted to dieting during pregnancy.

Talking to Us last Thursday at Pampers’ Daddy Play Date Fathers Day celebration she said she was about to drop another five pounds but she rather wouldn’t. She likes herself as she is now.

Picking up the thread of the criticism she attracted during her pregnancy for insufficient eating and setting up an unreasonable example for pregnant women, Frankel tried to put things into a truer perspective.

According to her, she never tried to give up good things like cheesecakes or desserts; the trick is in knowing when to stop. “I didn’t go overboard,” she claims. “I think people go crazy and that’s why they gain so much weight. People just have to be reasonable: Food is not your best friend or your enemy.”

When Us questioned Frankel on her post-baby diet, she described it as normal. Confessing to eating a bagel, a tuna sandwich and chips that morning, she said she doesn’t deny herself cakes or ice-creams because she knows when to stop. Never binge – never go overweight is Frankel’s motto that she thinks will go down well with every mother.

Are you feeling the pressure of studies, research and the regularly altering diet, food and nourishment? There are so many differing opinions and theories which makes it difficult for anyone to carry on the dos and don’ts. The following are five best fundamental routine changes to be actively encouraged in preparing your body for the process of conception and to start a healthy family life.

Reduction in Caffeine

Completely reducing or avoiding caffeine will be of great help. Caffeine reduces the blood flow by contracting muscles to your lower body and hampers the growth of the baby.

Eating Whole Foods

You should try to get used to whole foods in your busy lifestyle. Foods like vegetables, grains, seeds, nuts and minimum animal protein. To get a better idea about this, you can consult a nutritionist to learn which refreshing whole foods you must select containing quantities for healthy consumption, tips for shopping, and techniques for preparing your food to obtain the maximum benefits for health and digestion.

Drinking Enough Water

Drinking a lot of water and keeping your body hydrated is the best thing you can do. Avoid foods containing sugar and sugar containing liquids in the market are not as healthy for you as they quote. Avoid them.

Excluding Synthetic Foods

Foods containing chemicals, additives and preservative can be harmful for you and your baby. You must learn to get familiar with a few natural sweeteners for consumption and bar the ones containing artificial sweeteners. You should start on increasing your fertility percentage with robust diet and nutrition consumption.

Controlling Unhealthy Cravings

You can follow this from the very next day. Start having breakfast. If you skip breakfast, they will make your cravings worse and you should not miss the most important meal of the day. When you would consult a dietician, you will surely come to know a lot many reasons and the remedies for unhealthy cravings which would also comprise emotional reasons that would be not allowing your body to conceive.

Healthy Diet Tips for Getting Pregnant

Well balanced nutrition is exceptionally vital from the viewpoint of reproductive health. You must consult a registered nutritionist who will come up with a list of nutritious foods and beverages that you should avoid and the ones that you should include in your daily meals. Keeping up with these rules will only be beneficial for you and especially your reproductive health. Your consulting dietician will guide you through your very own personalized nutrition and fitness plan. Your dietician will also be able to provide you a few quick nutritional and lifestyle tips to get away from food cravings which reduce your chances of conceiving.

Getting Healthy to Conceive

If you are facing any chronic health problems, your dietician will be able to guide you properly and help you in gaining healthy weight suitable for conceiving, and will make you realize how certain routine changes will make you healthy enough to conceive. This will further help you to balance your life, make you physically and mentally prepared for parenthood and help you in managing physically possible exercises, decrease stress in your daily routine and support you in conception.

Researchers from the University Medical Center in Rotterdam, Netherlands, found that women’s diet affects pregnancy odds. They examined over 160 infertile couples who underwent IVF treatment and ICSI treatment (intracytoplasmic sperm injection).

Researchers discovered that Mediterranean diet increased women’s chances for conception by almost 40 per cent while there was no link between other diets and successful outcomes of in vitro fertilization

The study author Dr. Regine Steegers-Theunissen explains that Mediterranean diet provides sufficient amount of folic acid and vitamin B6. This is demonstrated by high levels of these substances in blood, and of follicular fluid inside ovarian follicle. These vitamins are crucial for fertilization and proper fetal development at early stages.

The rate of children with excessive weight continues to ascend all over the world, and one of the reasons for that is a growing habit to snack, a recent study says. Furthermore, the research shows that children mostly snack on unhealthy food – candy, sugared fruit juices, sports energy drinks, and salty chips, that is, foods that add many unnecessary calories to their diets. Snacks can bring in up to 168 additional calories, and that state of things has been going on for almost 40 years.

The study that appeared in Health Affairs reveals that about 27 per cent of the daily calorie intake children get from snacking.

“Our study shows that some children, including very young children, snack almost continuously throughout the day,” lead researcher Barry M. Popkin points out.
And the youngest ones, with the age range between 2 and 6, are reported to get the largest amount of calories from snacks – 182 calories a day over what they get with their regular meals.

Popkin writes that those findings demonstrate that children in the United States are not only put at risk of gaining unhealthy obesity in the long run – they may acquire a dysfunctional eating pattern fraught with other health threats.

The scientists’ advice is for parents to cut down snacks to prevent the forming of an unnecessary habit, and replace unhealthy sugar-loaded snacks with fruits and vegetables.

British scientists say that parents may keep their children out of troubles by allowing them to drink some alcohol at home. Teenagers who try to fetch alcohol by themselves are more likely to engage in violence-related situations or other forms of illegal behavior.

Scientists surveyed 10,000 teens aged 15-16 in North West England to reveal almost 30 percent of those surveyed got into violence related situations when drunk. 12.5% said they had sex contacts they regretted when sober. 35.8% drank at public places such as parks and shopping centers. 43.5% admitted memory blackouts because of alcohol.

The study also found that how teenagers get their alcohol greatly affects how much harm this drinking brings. Obviously, drinking alcohol at 15 has never been safe, yet teens get into trouble more often when drinking cheap alcoholic beverages outside their home. Out of those who drank alcohol bought by their parents only 20 percent engaged in violence-related situations, while that figure rose up to 36 percent among those who got it by themselves.

The study author, Mark Bellis, says negative influence of alcohol on teenage health is huge, but parents who allow their 15-16 year old children to drink at home can apparently cut down the risk. Parents can control the amount of alcohol and prevent their children from getting boozed.

Banning a teenager from alcohol won’t solve the problem and simply transfer it into the streets.

The inclination to turn to violence and become a criminal is considered to be linked with social and environmental influence and brought down to family factors. But a new study published in the British Journal of Psychiatry proves that there is a direct interrelation between a child’s behavior and his or her diet. Many criminals are known to have had poor meals in their childhood.

The study reports that youngsters whose behavior is impulsive and unruly have worthless diets feeding on canned soft drinks and bags of chips.

“There appears to be a link between childhood diet and adult violence, although the nature of the mechanism underlying this association needs further scrutiny,” is the conclusion of lead researcher Simon Moore.

A regular intake of sweets and chocolate is also conducive to bringing a child up to be a convict!

About 69 percent of 30-odd individuals regarded as violent were reported to have eaten sweets practically every day when they were children.

It is still a moot question what psychological processes are at work behind this interrelation; many scientists are inclined to think that addiction to sweets may foster other adult addictions later in life that are linked with aggressive and violent behavior.

Another theory says that confectionary, which is often used as a means to stop bad behavior, tempts the children away from learning to wait for their reward, thus provoking them to impulsive actions.

Scientists are sure that good diets for children may improve not only their health, but also prevent them from resorting to violence in their adult life.

Indulging in liquorice-rich diet on the part of the expectant mom can influence the fetus, negatively shaping his intelligence and behavior in future life, as the new study published in the American Journal of Epidemiology informs. The research showed that mothers who liked to take much liquorice with their meals gave birth to children who displayed impaired cognitive functions in terms of memory and spatial awareness. Their vocabulary also proved to be limited for their age.

Liquorice contains a component called glycyrrhizin that enables stress hormones or glucocorticoids reach across the placenta to the fetus and affect the development of the brain. Besides inhibiting the child’s intelligence it can also make for unruly behavior.

A regular intake of over 100g of pure liquorice (that is, 500mg of glycyrrhizin) for several weeks during pregnancy has been found to correlate with lower intelligence and poor attention spans in the children.

Scientists underline that impaired attention caused by high amounts of liquorice in the mother’s food may in future cause the development of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and other kinds of behavioral disorders.

Girl displayed linear response, as the skinnier they are the happier they feel. Boys, on the other hand, had U-shaped response, as too fat or too skinny boys are unhappy with their bodies.

Canadian scientists decided to study the effect of generally accepted ideas of “perfect body” on the eating behavior of children. According to Bryn Austin, the head of the group of researchers from the Harvard University and the University of Alberta, Canada, they found a clear link between children being dissatisfied with their bodies and increased risk of eating disorders, such as vomiting, starvation, use of laxatives and diet pills.

In order to understand body satisfaction in children and how much it is related to BMI, the scientists studied prevalence of poor body satisfaction in girls and boys and its association with body weight and socioeconomic factors.

Examining the results of the study, Austin noted that poor body satisfaction among boys with low BMI can reflect the cultural ideals of male beauty, with preferences muscularity and leanness. On the other hand, thinness remains the cultural ideal of body shape among girls.

British Heart Foundation has launched a campaign called Eat Smart aimed at children. The survey conducted by the foundation revealed that three out of four children have no idea about the effects of unhealthy eating.

73 percent of children aged between 8 and 15 were unaware of how unhealthy diet might impact their lifespan. About 45 percent of surveyed kids were dead sure that among the worst things about junk food were weight gain, caries and becoming unpopular with peers.

Latest studies show that about two thirds of children will be obese by 2050, and today’s youngsters can pioneer as the generation that won’t outlive their parents, according to the foundation’s representative. Obesity is known to be one of the risk factors of heart disease. That’s why the foundation launched its Eat Smart initiative.

The campaign is trying to get children interested in physical activity. Under the program, schools can receive the instructions on how to play dodgeball, balls and posters. In addition, on-line game Yoobot was re-launched this year, designed to make children choose healthy food and exercise. In the game, kids can create their own character and monitor how its health changes depending on its diet and the level of physical activity over a long period of time. Last year, kids created over 1, 25 million characters.

During the study they examined the nutrition of 10 thousand women; the women had to complete a survey noting how much seafood they consumed during pregnancy and how she felt during that period of their life.

Apparently, there is direct relationship between eating seafood and being in a good mood. The scientists believe that this is because seafood is rich in omega-3 fatty acid, which acts on brain centers responsible for the good mood. Moreover, seafood is good for pregnant woman’s health, so make sure to eat it at least twice a week.

Researchers say that genetics is unlikely to be playing a role in the issue. Instead, they insist on psychological factors. Scientists from Plymouth Medical School, U.S. have put forward this conclusion as a result of their study of 226 families, where it was discovered that obese mothers were 10 times more likely to have obese daughters, and for fathers and sons, there was a six-fold rise.

These findings imply that reasons for obesity should be re-thought and a more in-depth research on contributing psychological factors is required. Contrary to the belief that obese children become obese adults, the researchers from Plymouth found out that obese mothers may have eight-year-old daughters suffering from excessive weight.
