Exercises in the pool are very useful for women‘s health, not only on a daily basis, but during pregnancy as well. Water aerobics helps pregnant women to relax, reduce the load on the spine, control weight, and improve the functioning of all organs and systems, which is useful not only for the woman herself, but for the future baby as well. What exercises are better to be done in the pool to get the most of enjoyment and benefit?

Stretch Water Exercise

In the pool, you can do a lot of exercises, but there are a few basic ones to help pregnant women feel good. You can start with the exercises, which contribute to a better stretch, and so they need to be done at the side of the pool.

Try to perform longitudinal splits, exactly as much as you can.

Try to perform cross splits, as well as you can.

Jump in the water several times, trying to place your legs as wide as possible.

Putting alternately your right and left leg to the side, try to squat to perform semi-splits.

Pregnancy Twisting Exercise

Twisting exercises are best to carry out, holding the side of the pool with your hands, squatting and standing on toes, turning the body in one direction and then in the opposite direction.
Then you can rest on your back in the water holding on to the side of the pool, with your feet performing the rotational movements as if riding a bicycle or simply hitting the water surface with your feet.
Lying with your stomach down and holding the side of the pool with your hands, try to push your feet from the water with outstretched arms. Drawing semicircles with your feet, slowly pull your knees to your stomach.

Relaxing Exercises for Pregnant Women

These exercises will help you relax and have a rest.

You can lie on your back, with your head on an inflatable pillow and your arms outstretched to the sides. Lie down and relax on the water.

You can also lie on your stomach and, holding your breath, duck with your head under the water and move your arms, legs and the entire body.

Breath Holding Exercise for Expecting Mothers

The exercises for breath holding are very useful because they help to train future mothers to hold breath for a longer time, which will help to push during delivery. It will also help your child better stand oxygen starvation while passing through the birth canal.

In order to perform the following exercise, you can jump up and clasp your hands around your folded together feet. While doing so, the knees should be drawn to the sides as much as possible lowering the head under the water at the same time. In this case you will come to the surface, like a float. In this position, you need to hold your breath for some time.

The next exercise simulates the position of the child in utero: legs are pulled up to the body, feet are crossed, and hands are crossed on the chest. Inhaling the air, it is necessary to sink under water in this position.

Pregnant women should do exercises in the pool under the guidance of an experienced coach, who will help them choose, if necessary, individual exercises that will suit them best and will help prepare for childbirth.

Exercise during pregnancy is aimed at helping to strengthen the muscle groups, which have a greater burden during childbirth. Right exercises also contribute to the formation of proper breathing and improve circulation.

Why Should Pregnant Women Exercise?

With regular physical activity during pregnancy, the level of endorphins increases, and they operate as natural analgesics in the body. Besides, regular moderate exercise helps the body recover faster after childbirth.

How to Start Pregnancy Exercising Correctly?

Of course, it is better to startphysical exercising before rather than during pregnancy in order to keep fit with the help of simple exercises while being in a family way. But, of course, you can start a new kind of physical activity during pregnancy after consulting the doctor.

What Sports to Choose during Pregnancy?

You can practice yoga and attend aerobics classes for pregnant women, but on condition that the program activities have been developed by a qualified instructor and are approved by the obstetrician-gynecologist, who observes you during pregnancy. Thus, you will rule out the occurrence of complications or their provocation.

Swimming has a particularly positive effect on the body during pregnancy. It is known that water soothes and relaxes. Since the weight of the body in water decreases, the growing fetus and the uterus become easier, so the pain in the back decreases, as well as the pressure on the joints.

Aqua Aerobics and Other Water Exercising during Pregnancy

Moderate swimming or aqua-aerobic exercises normalize blood flow, facilitate the blood flow to the heart, which has a beneficial influence on the pregnant woman in case of an increase in blood pressure. During the exercise, there is outflow of tissue fluid into the bloodstream, and then excess liquid is removed through kidneys, which decreases swelling. In addition, resistance to movement is 12 times higher in water, so the training of muscle fibers and joints is more intense, but the necessary sparing regimen is preserved, which, by the way, does not cause the increase of the body temperature.

4 Tips for Pregnant Women Going for Water Fitness

Generally recommended exercises in water usually mean orderly swimming for half an hour. They are just as effective and safe as the classes of aqua-aerobics or aqua-yoga under the supervision of an instructor, who has much experience in fitness programs for pregnant women. Also, one should always remember the traditional advice given by coaches and doctors:

The optimal water temperature for the classes should be about 27-29° C because warmer water temperatures are harmful to the fetus.

One needs to drink clean water before and after these exercises, because moisture is lost during any aerobic exercises, even in the pool.

The planned expenditure of energy needs to be compensated, so one should better plan a meal 1 hour before the class.

You should watch yourself carefully during a workout, because cool water extinguishes the sense of being tired which can contribute to fatigue.

As for the optimal level of physical activity, you should consult an experienced obstetrician-gynecologist.

Seeking to break fresh grounds, the UK’s Make Me Fabulous dance studio in Northampton offers a range of activities outside dancing – like meditation, Zumba or pole dancing. The Daily Mail reported on their latest innovative idea to call in pre-teen and teen children for their share of pole dancing in a class named “Little Spinners.”

While it may sound somewhat controversial at the first approach, the studio – and class instructor Carly Wilford in particular – are surely out to divest pole dancing of any sexual connotation to which Wilford refers as “stigma.” They invite people to look on the practice as something akin to gym that helps train balance feeling and shape the body in exercises that look more like fun than strain. The new class is described on the studio’s website as a way to teach youngsters to move freely, “lift, spin, climb and fly in a safe and fun environment.” Besides, it is meant to build up their self-esteem.

A different view is harbored, though, within other organizations like anti-bullying charity Kidscape. The purely physical aspect of the class may be laudable for conjoining exercise and games, but – as pointed out by Kidscape’s director Claude Knights – there is a social aspect that cannot be so easily ignored. Some of the movements are definitely raunchy, and the fact that many younger kids aged from 3 to 7 don’t understand their adult significance won’t help if they inadvertently place themselves in a dangerous situation because of the messages their bodies will be sending out.

There are all kinds of fun, after all, and some of them are hardly appropriate for underage kids – does pole dancing belong with these?

As is officially known since Tuesday, Jewel and her husband, nine-time world champion rodeo cowboy Ty Murray have a child on the way. The couple has behind them two years of marriage and ten more years of living together. They reside on a 2,200 acre ranch in Texas.

Jewel, 36, is well into her second trimester, but you wouldn’t tell it by her figure, the singer is in perfect shape. Is it because she keeps working out? She does a lot of that, as the four-time Grammy winner shared with UsMagazine at a Television Critics’ Association event in Pasadena, Calif. last Thursday. She does her cardio exercises and running with several cowboy friends regularly, not to mention going to the gym.

She means to keep it up until the last moment, the only rule being to stop when she feels tired. Besides occasional spells of tiredness, Jewel says she feels “good.”

The pregnancy news was a little shock at first because it was the beginning of her work on the show, but now the cowboy duo are “very excited” with their new status and are looking forward to the birth. According to the singer, they are on excellent terms with each other and the rodeo champ is ready to accept the new responsibilities.

The Sweet and Wild artist hasn’t arrived at the stage of special cravings yet, and her 2009 Lullaby album set her “in the zone” for singing songs to the coming baby.

Pregnancy has never been a period to give up on your sportive habits (unless, of course, your doctor has explicitly warned you against physical strain or you are bed-ridden). On the contrary, it’s an excellent reason to stay fit and feel lively. Doing exercises will make you feel more energetic due to better blood circulation. Taking care of your body will make your delivery shorter and less strenuous and take you a long way towards a rapid recovery after the childbirth.

Exercises a Pregnant Woman Shouldn’t Do

The question is settled, then, but the choice of the training system is yet to be made. Before taking a closer look at various possibilities, you’d do well to brush aside the ones that will not do. Any program that you have never attempted before and which appears to involve a good deal of exertion should better be avoided. Running and suchlike activities of a jolting nature must be firmly excluded. Even if you are a well-trained runner, first take medical advice about it.

Among suitable workouts that may be safely recommended during pregnancy we find the following activities.

Walking

While not being a big deal from the sport viewpoint, it is still the best thing for pregnant women. It is perfectly safe from the beginning to end and it does set your heart to a livelier rhythm, making the blood circulate faster.

Jogging

Jogging is fine as long as you have some experience in it. You should be careful not to overtire yourself and cut down on the strain gradually as your pregnancy keeps on its course. If you find it hard to sustain a conversation as you are jogging along, take it as a sign that you are overstraining yourself.

Swimming

Swimming ranks among the best and safest pregnancy exercises. It bolsters up your cardiovascular system. It helps you forget – if only temporarily – about your newly-acquired weight. It leaves you with a nice feeling of lightness in your body and a brighter mood.

Pregnancy Yoga

Yoga will look after your muscles, joints and ligaments providing a good stretch without unduly swift movements. You can get enlisted in a pre-natal yoga class which would make it just perfect.

Weights

Weight training is not off the list as long as you scratch off the exercises that require the pregnant woman lying on the back and don’t overdo it generally. You can get on with building your muscles and enjoying the familiar sensations.

In any case it would be advisable for you to take the doctor’s advice before embarking on any kind of physical activity. There are not supposed to be any objections to that especially if you have always been sport-minded.

Warming up

The rule to start off easy is applicable and once you have started you’d better put it on a regular basis. The general recommendation gives half an hour of workout every day (or every other day if you feel too tired). Please remember to begin and finish off with warming exercises thus giving your heart opportunity to tune up first and rate down gradually afterwards. Besides, warming up lessens the possibility of injuries. Keep tabs on your heart rate and when it escalates over 140 go easier and get ready to wind up. As soon as you begin to experience dizzy sensations and feel lightheaded stop immediately.

Drink Enough Water

And one final hint: don’t let your hydration level go too low. Over-heating may be detrimental to yours and your baby’s health.

This advice will improve your mind as well as body, help you maintain your health and enjoy yourself.

You can surely follow a healthy routine during pregnancy, but health and fitness becomes more important as the due date comes near. If you remain active and maintain your body in a healthy and fit manner, then this eases the stress during delivery in additionally making your labor and delivery shorter.

Giving birth to a child can be a very exhausting course of action that any woman would ever experience in her entire lifetime. Childbirth greatly requires mental training, flexibility and stamina. If you keep preparing your mind and make it ready for labor and delivery, this process itself will help in decreasing the worries that you are undergoing a few weeks before the due date.

Exercises during Pregnancy

During pregnancy, your pelvic floor muscles are supposed to be strong. You should start practicing Kegel exercises from your fourth month onwards to make these muscles stronger. These exercises appear and seem quite awkward in the beginning, but you can practice these exercises anytime and anywhere.

How does Kegel Exercises Work

The Kegel exercises tone the muscle called pubococcygeus or PC muscle. This muscle is helpful in making a woman stop urinating halfway through. These same muscles are responsible for pushing the baby out during the time of delivery. Once you have distinguished this muscle, you should tighten and try holding it up for 10 seconds. Follow this at least 10 times in a day. Once this muscle becomes healthy, you will be able to give stronger and effective pushed which would help you in reducing the time of delivery. Following this, you will be able to gain a proper control over your bladder till your delivery and even after it.

Making Hips Flexible During Pregnancy

During pregnancy, a rare process of softening hip joints occurs which helps in sperading the hips in order to make place for the baby. This rare hormone is called relaxing. To make your hips a little more flexible, try to perform light stretches, but make sure that you don’t push yourself too far on this one. You would notice a very different flexibility in your joints than before. This will also lead to torn muscles if you strech too much than what your muscles actually permit to. When you are performing leg lifts, you should make use of a steady support which will not let you loose support especially during your last few weeks of pregnancy. If you try to keep your hips flexible and well tones, your body will be strong enough to go through the process of childbirth and recover at a faster speed after delivery.

Sex is the Best Exercise

Sex is considered to be the best exercise during pregnancy. If you doctor has cast a green signal for you to have sex, it is one of the best methods to keep your pubococcygeus muscles in proper shape and an optimum way to keep your heart beating.

Best Exercises During Pregnancy

No matter what different forms of exercises your practice during pregnancy, light stretching and walking are considred to give out more positive results all throughout the pregnancy and are much better than the strenous exercises.

If you stay fit all throughout your pregnancy, it will be helful in easing your process of delivery and will make you recover soon. With the benefit of good health, you will gain the capability to manage in processing oxygen, you heart will be able to manage stress during the delivery and your body will recover within no time after delivery. If you continue to maintain a healthy diet and a proper exercises during pregnancy, you will be in a good shape in inviting your new born into this world.

While the general belief opts for shunning exercising during pregnancy for fear of endangering the fetus, an opposite approach to that issue is growing stronger. A joint team of specialists from Polytechnic University of Madrid and the Karolinska Institute, Sweden, prove in their new study that it presents no actual danger for the unborn baby if the mom goes on with her exercising all the way through her pregnancy.

The study, written by Jonatan R. Ruiz of Sweden, the coordinator of the team, was published in the International Journal of Obesity. Ruiz concludes that “an exercise regime carried out during the second and third trimester of pregnancy does not harm the health of the fetus.”

The research involved the participation of 160 healthy women ranging from 25 to 35. They were selected from women with sedentary habits who showed no symptoms of a possibility of premature birth. These women were divided into two groups one of which maintained an exercise regime for the whole period of pregnancy. They were closely supervised by experts of two institutions, the Physical Activity and Sports Science and the Gynaecology and Obstetrics Unit of Hospital Severo Ochoa in Madrid.

The second and third trimester of pregnancy got the most attention from the researchers; the embryos were analyzed using multiple methods for the effect the ongoing workouts had on the weight and size of the babies.

It was found that mothers’ constant exercising had no negative effect on the body size and other health parameters of their fetuses which displayed a close similarity to those in the group of women who weren’t engaged in physical activity during pregnancy.

Thus disposing of the superstitious fear of a probable harm to the baby, the study accentuates the health benefits of a physically-active lifestyle even during the last stages of pregnancy.

During pregnancy, your breast starts growing even before your belly becomes bigger. Estrogen and progesterone trigger the growth of breast tissue and, by the birth of a baby, each breast will add about one pound in weight or even more. Health experts say that, rather than during breastfeeding, it is during this period when you can lose the shape of your breast. Do the following exercises to maintain the shape of your breast and prevent saggy breast.

Trained muscle is more flexible and it won’t get saggy soon like if it were physically weak breast. Doing just three exercises daily is enough, provided the exercising doesn’t hurt an expectant mom, or cause her any slightest feeling of discomfort. Below are these exercises.

Squeeze an exercise ball behind you at the level of your hips and try to raise it up. Hold the position for 5-10 seconds and put the ball down. Do 10 reps.

Place your hands in front of your breast and press the palms tight, straining your arm and breast muscles. Count until 15 and relax. Do 10 reps.

Take dumbbells weighing 2-5 pounds. Assume starting position by straightening arms in front of you. Move your arms to the sides and then return to the starting point. Do 10-15 reps.

Every second expecting mom experiences back pain. No wonder, since her abdomen rounds and thus the center of gravity shifts. But there’s no need to endure pain. A pregnant woman needs to feel comfortable in her daily life. Pregnancy shouldn’t be a kind of torture for you! Here are some tips on how to make your pregnancy free from back pains.

Keep your Back Straight

To prepare your back for the new round belly, start early and do easy static exercises from the first day of the pregnancy. Lay on your back, keep your legs parallel, relax your shoulders, lower the pelvis till there is no sag in the waist. Lotus position is great for pregnant women, since in this position the back is perfectly straight and there is no pressure on it.

In addition, if you need to lift something, make sure to shift the weight on your legs by bending your knees, not your back. Women in their third trimester should not lift heavy bags, or any furniture, even if it’s really small.

Massage

Massage will help you relax and will also work on your muscles. Ask your doctor about massages for pregnant women. you may be prescribed kinesitherapy sessions. A specialist can teach some simple techniques to the expecting daddy, so that he would be able to give you extra massage at home.

Band for Pregnant Women

This band may come really handy, especially if your work is related to physical work or if you are expecting twins. It may sound not very aesthetic but it will definitely make your life easier by supporting your abdomen, spine, and strengthening the bones of the pelvis.

No High Heels

For the time of pregnancy you can store your high heels in the deepest corner of your closet. Apart for the fact that they are dangerous, since you can trip at any moment when wearing them, they also worsen the sagging in the back. If you simply can not survive without high heels then at least wear low-heel shoes (heels no more than 4 cm high).

Physical Activities

Have you been exercising before pregnancy? This is not the time to stop exercising. Workout under supervision of stretching, Pilates, yoga, swimming, or aqua aerobics specialist. These exercises will strengthen the abdominal muscles and vertebrates, which are highly stressed during pregnancy. If sport is not your thing, then at least try walking more and doing some simple exercises for pregnant women.

Pilates

Pilates before pregnancy is a really great way to avoid back pain during pregnancy. Pilates exercises make your back muscles stronger, so, they support the spine better. By the way, you can do Pilates exercises during pregnancy, too.

Relax

Do not overwork yourself, do not carry or lift heavy loads, do not start major cleaning. Take it easy. Furthermore, no need to be shy if you want and have opportunity to stay in bed longer, go ahead and treat yourself.

Driving during Pregnancy

Sitting for a long time exerts too much stress on your back. If you really need to make a long trip then choose train. However, if you have no other choice but to drive then at least make regular stops every hour in order to stretch your body and take some fresh air. Finally, make sure to fasten the seat belt properly – it should be placed under and above the belly.
