Mom is tired and she wants to relax… But the child is constantly trying to draw her attention, crying, screaming, jumping, running. And so a wave of irritation rolls over the poor parent…

She shouts at the child and may even slap him/her. Do not worry, she is not a bad mom. It is just fatigue that leads to a bad mood. Some other reasons will be discussed further in the article.

Mothers Are Angry Because of Their Helplessness

Mind that all people tend to get irritated, crying and being angry from time to time. Why then be so afraid of these emotions? Many adults are often unable to distinguish between their feelings, emotions, desires, and actions.

Sometimes the usual feeling of annoyance can turn into a desire to scream, cry, or even kick. For a small child it is normal, but an adult should always distinguish between desires and actions, understand his/her feelings, and only then decide whether to act that way.

What Is Rage?

Psychologists believe that anger is a quite normal feeling, which is even a little useful. The main thing is to know how to handle it. Anger tells us about the need for change.

It is often small children, who cause rage. Everything happens because of the feeling of helplessness that adults have. We just do not know how to help our baby in some situations. What should we do?

To begin with, try to “tune yourself” to understand what the baby wants. Then you will need to collect yourself: leave the room, stay alone for some time, and relax from the high-pitched scream. It would be a good idea to call someone and ask for advice.

Bad mood and anger can also be caused by the feeling of fatigue. Do not make yourself a slave to the apartment and the baby. Ask the members of your family for help, you also need to have a rest. Spare more time and attention for yourself. Hire a nanny.

When and How to Stop Being Angry with Your Baby?

Sometimes a nervous mom does not even notice what is happening with her baby. And she may even scare it with her behavior. Have you seen fear in the baby’s face? This is a signal to stop! Pull yourself together and apologize to your baby.

Being Angry “the Right Way”

Do not turn your dissatisfaction into permanent accusations. But do not restrain your discontent as well. The best way is to gently explain to your child what exactly you do not like.

If you find it difficult to restrain your “primitive” rage, do not torture yourself: punch a pillow, tear a towel… but do it so that the child would not see it.

But the best thing is to beat up a carpet or wash the floor. Thus you will lose your negative emotions and switch to something else. To raise your mood, you can also listen to good music, watch a movie or a cartoon with the child, bake a cake… You can do virtually anything!

And most importantly – do not worry! Remember that every mother screams at her child at least once in her life. We are not perfect, but we must strive to become perfect!

The scientists from the University of Poitiers are sure that if parents and teachers help children to treat their mistakes and difficulties normally, the child’s working memory, that is required for processing and storing information as well as for further education, will begin to function better.

Psychologists say that difficulties usually make people nervous. As a result, the fear of making a mistake interferes with the working memory.

The experts stress that one needs only a little self-esteem and confidence to enhance the working memory of the child in general.

A new study shows that with age, under certain conditions a girl can develop breast thickening, which is a serious risk factor for cancer. If a mother gives birth to a girl when she is over 39, and if before puberty the girl is taller and thinner than her peers, she has a high chance of getting breast cancer.

Virginia Loup, the author of the study, explains that it is associated with an increased content of hormones. The risk of cancer is also caused by the speed of a girl’s maturation. If breasts begin to grow too rapidly, the predisposition to cancer evolves, as well.

Medical Express reports that breast cancer remains a genetic condition, but other factors also have influence – for example, the age when a woman gives birth to her first child and the number of children.

The study is published in Breast Cancer Research and Treatment.

Parents of teens, be careful! If you are accustomed to winning in debates by means of suppressing your child’s opinion, he or she will not be able to defend his/her opinion in other situations.

A new research, conducted at the University of Virginia, shows that the teenagers, who are not able to convincingly prove their position during an argument with their mother, find it harder to resist peer pressure. In contrast, other children are able to calmly and persuasively defend their point of view.

Of course, parents should give their children an opportunity to use their arguments in the dispute. However, they must first of all learn to listen – to listen to their children’s opinion to the end, to try to understand the motives which prompted the child to commit a particular act. This is the basic pattern of behavior, which the teenager copies and will continuously apply in life, including interaction with peers.

The skill of reasoned argument will be very useful when a classmate or a friend from the neighborhood will offer your child to try alcohol or drugs for the first time. It is not simple to abandon the “temptation”, because one can easily do anything “in a company”. And if a teen has an argument and the skill of using it, he or she can prove the peers that drugs and alcohol will not do any good in one’s life. At the same time, the teenager will retain the “reputation” in a social group, which is so important in this age.

Of course, parents can simply demand compliance with some rules of conduct, but the consequences of such pressure on the child are unpredictable – the teenager may act in the opposite way, thus demonstrating the protest.

Joanna Marie Chango (Ph.D., a post-graduate student in clinical psychology) and her colleagues have tested the adolescents and their mothers (because it is mothers who spend the most time with their children). They were offered to discuss any problems and then take part in a simulated hypothetical situation. As a result of these studies, the children, who did not get their mother’s support and understanding during the conversation with her, were more susceptible to peer pressure.

Some children, who have had sleep problems as a baby, experience the same difficulties later.

The researchers from the University of Chicago asked 359 mothers to fill out a questionnaire in order to find out whether their kids of nursery school age had sleep problems. It was found that 10% of children, who had had these difficulties in infancy, did not get rid of them ever since.

The symptoms of poor sleep can be characterized by snoring, the syndrome of “restless legs”, the difficulty in falling asleep (more than 15-20 minutes), nightmares, insomnia, and night terrors.

It is needless to say, that restless sleep affects the child’s daily activities in a negative way. Sleep is an important part of development. The development of cognitive skills and the ability to think, learn and analyze also depend on whether the child gets enough sleep, especially at the age from 1 to 3 years.

Not all parents pay attention to the child’s snoring. Such a situation is normal if the baby has a cold, but there should be no snoring in the baby’s usual state. Snoring during sleep is a clear message that the child may be prone to sleep apnea and various breath problems during sleep. If the disease develops and is not treated, the consequences can be very unpleasant: an increased risk of hypertension, heart disease, obesity and diabetes.

If you notice that your child has sleep problems, try to stick to the regime, walk in the fresh air more often, offer your child to play active outdoor games, and provide him or her with a healthy diet. If you cannot get rid of the problem in such a way, go to the doctor immediately, especially in the case of sleep apnea.

While this country hasn’t come round to imposing a ban on giving your kid a name that may mar all his life – like it was done in Sweden or New Zealand – some of our celebs keep trying to be so ingenious that there’s no stopping them. Rob Morrow – who called his daughter Tu Morrow – played a good pun, but will it stay as good in a coupla decades? The only comfort left is that he didn’t choose to spell it “Too.” The child with the moniker of Kal-el should be tutored from green years not to overreact to other people enquiring when he came over from Krypton.

The problem seems to have evolved into an acute condition since some time around the turn of the previous century, as can be witnessed by the appearance of the book entitled “How to Name Your Baby without Handicapping It for Life” (1922) whose author by a bombastic name of Alexander McQueen ought to know a thing or two about the said handicapping. He advises, when naming your children, to bear in mind both the practical daily use of the name and the understanding that a name has a meaning that will help the child build up personality and destiny.

A decent name, according to McQueen, should respond to seven factors – be worthy, positive in its meaning, offbeat, easily pronounceable, distinctive, sex-indicative and finally, must go well with the family name.

Going over the names luminaries handed to their children from the point of view of the right-minded scholar, it looks like some of celeb parents would have won his appreciation, while some others would definitely evoke censure.

As for winning 2011 celeb names, the most noteworthy seem to be:

For girls –

Willow Sage, arguably the most original, from Pink;
the suggestive Monroe from Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon;
Penelope Athena, Tina Fey’s devotion to ancient lore;
Joni from Zac Brown;
Amaya from Mariska Haritgay

For boys –

the fantastic Skyler from Rachel Zoe;
Milo from Alyssa Milano and
Marcelo from Ali Landry, both with a pleasant exotic touch;
Flynn from Miranda Kerr and Orlando Bloom;
Weston from Jenna Fischer

Worst misnomers in 2011:

For girls –

the weighting-down Genesis from Viola Davis;
Mirabella Bunny, a funny match-up from Bryan Adams;
Indiana, a tribal touch from Ethan Hawke;
Arlo from Johnny Knoxville;
Mosely from Peyton Manning

For boys –

the childish Bear Blu from Alicia Silverstone;
Spike, an aggressive name from Mike Myers;
Kannon, sounding warlike, from Kevin James;
Diesel from Jennie Finch;
Moroccan Scott from Carey and Cannon.

The list for 2012 will soon start completing too, with an expected nice boy name from Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck (arriving brother to Violet and Seraphina). Wonder how far will Jessica Simpson’s and Beyoncé with Jay-Z’s imaginative powers in naming take them?

A new trailer for the movie “What to Expect when Expecting a Child” proves that pregnancy is not an easy process. The first thing, which comes to your mind, is the initial phrase of one of the heroines, saying that “it sucks” and that now she “most of all wants to smash her husband’s face!”

And that is because these expectant mothers were not at all prepared for what they will have to encounter with.

The film is based on the bestselling book by Heidi Murkoff, which tells about five couples, who go through all the difficulties and joys of pregnancy. Some of them decide to have children despite their age, some of them come to this decision spontaneously, and the others are aimed at adopting a child. What unites the characters is that they are making funny discoveries, while getting ready to become parents (one of them is the phrase uttered by the character of Cameron Diaz: “If I knew I was going to have a rack this gorgeous, I would have gotten knocked up years ago!”).

The cast of this romantic comedy is star-studded: the movie involves Jennifer Lopez, Brooklyn Decker, Rodrigo Santoro, Anna Kendrick, Chace Crawford, and Matthew Morrison. They all promise to please the audience with the film next May.

The Maines twins were born identical boys, but before long their lives swerved apart so drastically that now they are living as brother and sister.

When brothers Wyatt and Jonas were getting on to four, Wyatt began to show his preference for dolls; he also loved donning girls’ clothes and high heels and walk about the house like this.

No-one paid much attention to that until the day when Wyatt stepped out dressed in his mother’s shoes and a sequined shirt. His parents wanted to know then if he felt comfortable in that kind of clothes and got an affirmative reply, according to the Boston Globe. Brother Jonas also told his dad that he’d better accept his brother as a girl and daughter.

It was an idea that didn’t sink in at once. Father, Wayne Maines, had been dreaming of handing down his passion for hunting to his sons and couldn’t wait until he would take them out to the Maine woods and hunt deer together. He admitted to the ABCNews that he fretted over the transition and felt as if he was “losing a son.”

Deciding to live with it, the Maines held a family council when the children turned nine, explaining to them the meaning of freedom, but also about fear, evil and hate that may also become part of their lives.

Other lessons their father taught them were to walk through life with integrity and pride taking care of one another and staying loyal to their friends.

The parents went on to engage help of the Children’s Hospital Gender Management Services Clinic that offers ground-breaking services for teaching parents how to handle a transgender child and recognize his or her emotional and medical difficulties.

Now, at 14, Wyatt is definite that his is a girl’s life. She is known as Nicole and acts like a sister to his brother Jonas. She says she has always been looking on herself as a girl and it makes her “cringe” whenever she thinks of being a boy.

The only thing Nicole lacks is having a female body and she means to get it! She needs a body “that matches up to my image of myself’’ and intends to undergo gender reassignment surgery as soon as she can.

In the common course of events such a surgery isn’t performed before the applicant turns 18; moreover, in New England where the Maines family lives there are no hospitals that do that kind of operation. It will be either Montreal or Philadelphia for Nicole to finally realize her wish. Meanwhile she is half excited, half anxious about the possible pain and the outcome of the surgery.

John Travolta was excited when his 47-year-old wife, Kelly Preston, got pregnant again last year. But it turns out that the actress is not the only one, who decided to challenge nature.

In fact, she can even be considered young in comparison with the new generation of parents, who prefer using reproduction methods and have their first-born babies in the age, when their peers are already nursing their grandchildren.

Getting Pregnant Despite Menopause

60-year-old Ann Maloney, the mother of two children (her elder daughter Isabella is 10 years old, and her younger daughter Lily is 7), gave an open-hearted interview to the New York Magazine telling about how her girls had been born. She met her second husband, John Ross, when she was 47, and a year later the spouses decided to have a child (a donor ovule was used for the conception). To have her second baby, Ann resorted to hormonal drugs and addressed the doctors, who managed to draw her out of the menopause. Today, the couple is happy, despite their age. The elderly parents say that they have enough strength and energy to raise both daughters.

Getting Pregnant at 53

A similar thing happened to a 53-year-old Kate Garros, who had lost her chance to become a mother at an early age. This story also involved a second marriage. Kate’s husband had been dreaming of having twins. The couple also used donor ovules for the IVF. Now, Alexandra and John have been making their mom and dad happy for seven years. However, the mother is now 61 years old, and she suffers from arthritis, which constantly reminds her of her age. From her personal experience, Kate says that people are baffled if you do not look like a typical mom, whom they expect to see.

Parents or Grandparents?

Fiona Palin from Los Angeles is 48 years old. Five months ago, she gave birth to a baby, Katherine. By that time, Fiona and her husband Nick had almost lost hope of ever becoming parents. It took them 10 years and 6 IVF attempts; three cases of pregnancy ended tragically. During the last attempt a frozen embryo was used. Fiona confessed of her thoughts that nothing would happen again, and they did not have any hopes left. But after nine months of an ‘ideal’ pregnancy, Catherine was born, and everyone would call her Kiki with affection. The baby is nearly six months old, and her mother still cannot quite believe that a miracle has happened.

Her husband is well aware of the fact that he could have been the grandfather of his daughter. He was not kidding when he said with irony that he did not have any grandchildren, so he decided to have his own child. He realizes the bitter truth that he can not be there when his daughter turns 30. His wife plans to send their daughter to a boarding school when she becomes a teenager, so that Kiki could have at least some “sisters”.

Here is how the psychologist Julianne Zweifel commented on the emerging tendency: “Children have the right for at least one parent alive and well.”

Why Are Pregnant Women “Getting Older”?

Mothers are getting older with every year. Over the past 10 years, the number of the women giving birth after 45 has increased more than twice in the USA. The number of those who gave birth after the age of 50 has increased by 375%. The reason for this rapid growth is the improvement of medical technologies, such as freezing of embryos, which allows women to postpone motherhood for the time being. Obstetricians and gynecologists claim that the biological age of many 50-year-old women is 10-15 years less than the real age, so they are fully capable to bear children. The studies have shown that those, who decide between pregnancy and career and prefer to pursue a career, postponing their pregnancy “for later times”, are wealthy, educated, and, consequently, physically healthier than their average statistical peers. Richard Paulson, fertility expert at the University of Southern California, says that these 50-year-olds are very young.

According to La Liberte Angel, who runs a California website for older mothers, women are too much under pressure which is often quite unreasonable. Women are expected to be responsible for the household duties, to earn money and to give birth within a certain period of time. However, the risks remain significant. Mothers aged 35 or more are 20% more likely to experience preterm labor, which leads to an increase in health problems for the child (the risk involves the lungs, the gastrointestinal tract and neurology, and the chances that the baby will be autistic also increase). However, the mothers themselves are having difficult times. Pregnant women, who are over 40, face the risk of preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, and hypertension. That is why many clinics, specializing in IVF, set strict age limitations.

What Makes Older Women Decide to Get Pregnant?

There is no doubt that getting pregnant is a balanced and deliberate decision. The children, who are born with “older” mothers, could hardly be more desired and loved. Sometimes their appearance can save a marriage that has been crumbling on the eyes, as if it were a house of cards. That is what happened with the relationship of John Travolta and Kelly Preston. After the death of the elder son, 16-year-old Jett (he had died of epilepsy in the Bahamas), the star couple was about to divorce. Fortunately, Ella Blue now has a younger brother Benjamin. The happy father says his son is so smart, cute, healthy, and wonderful. He is simply delighted with the kid, who “makes every day of his life better.”

The new meaning of life, no more and no less – that is what babies give their “adult” mothers.

Sadly, a study of over 1,000 parents revealed that nearly 10% of them came to regret their choice of the name for their child… Although they may have sweated over casting about for the right one at the time.

Anyhow, 8% of parents – a survey commissioned by YourBabyDomainName.com informs us – wish later that they had thought up some other name for their darling.

Most of those – about 53% – have now second thoughts about their kid’s first name because it had been popular back then, but now it’s no longer fashionable. A lesser number of parents – a third of the whole quantity – admitted that they had striven to select a unique name at the time, only to find that after a while the name became a more common one.

It also emerged that about 40% of parents have the name pat by the time the child is born, but some 6% admitted that the choice of the name had held them in a hot discussion for a week or longer.

A spokesperson for YourBabyDomainName.com summed up that the percentage of parents who have reasons to regret their choice of the baby’s name is fortunately relatively small. Yet the problem of trying to pick a special name that loses its unique value with the passing of time is really a strong enough reason for regret while it’s no fault of the parents.

According to the researchers, fit parents can often pass on to their children special genes that will make them slim, too. The probability of a child being born thin is three times bigger in such a family.

The scientists have been studying the height and weight of the parents and children from 7000 families for 5 years. The analysis of Body Mass Index (BMI) has shown that when both parents have a lower index, the probability that the child will be thin is 16.2%. But in the cases when the index was higher, the probability of being fit was only 7.8%.

The index of thin children was about 18.5 or lower, though normally the index should be 18.5 – 24.9. If the index ranges from 25 to 29.9, the child is overweight, and in the cases when the BMI exceeds 30, one can diagnose obesity.

By the way, when both parents were overweight, the child was thin in only 5.3% of cases, and if they were obese, only 2.5% of the children were slim.

The head of the research, Dr Katrina Whitaker from the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health at University College London admits that the researchers had already been discussing the connection between the parents’ weight and their children’s cases of overweight before this study. But thin children and their parents had never been in the focus of their attention.

It is well known that all genes have two versions called alleles. Most likely, the genes responsible for weight also exist in two versions: the first one is associated with low weight, and the second one – with obesity. Accordingly, fit parents have more “skinny allele genes” which they can pass on to their children.

Keeping mum is a costly game or moms and dads, as the findings of a recent study commissioned by Sheila’s Wheels reveal. British parents have been found to be paying a hefty yearly sum to their offspring to avoid leaking of something they would rather conceal.

It emerged that every year children receive approximately 83 requests not to divulge various bits of information that came their way, supported by more than £1,400 payoff. Parents seeking to ensure safety of their secrets – in many cases from the other parent – are ready to stump up £27 weekly, either in treats or in cash.

Most often it is the innocuous secret of a gift for an occasion that is supposed to be a surprise, but in 5% of cases children are called upon to aid and abet in breaking the law.

Some of these attempts are clearly meant to preserve peace in the family, like paying hush money for buying something expensive or breaking something at home, but 8% turn out to be “home criminals” who violated the rule set by their partner.

A popular way to bribe a child is buying them things like consoles and gadgets that eats up £176.80 yearly. Clothes are another common bribe costing the average parent over £150, including shoes and trainers (over £140). The same sum goes for fun activities.

Cash investments in the secret-keeping services come to £114.40, making children quite highly-paid members of the family if they play along.

Top Ten Secrets That Earn Kids Good Money

55% conceal a gift they intend to be a surprise

26% conceal their age to be eligible for a price reduction

22% lie to be able to sit up later than they are supposed to

16% don’t want their partner to know they gorged themselves on sweets or junk food

13% want their extravagant buy to stay secret

9% lie to gain entrance to an age restricted movie

8% breached a home agreement and try to hide it

7% don’t want the other half to know they have broken something

5% can get into hot water for breaking the law

3% try to pretend it wasn’t them who damaged the car.

A study of how parents use the Internet resources to keep tabs on their children found that over 50% of British parents do it on a regular basis. Thousands of adult Brits have made it their habit to go through the Internet history of their offspring, their mailboxes and profiles on social network sites.

Of 2,000 parents polled 40% admitted that they always look up their kids’ new postings and changes in their social media statuses, 39% look through the list of their posted messages via Facebook, and 29% check their images.

It seems that if researchers took into consideration snooping on all sorts of people these numbers would go up dramatically – although a spokesperson for BullGuard already called the percentage “quite surprising.”

Further findings say that about 35% of parents take interest in the people their youngster is socializing with, and the most zealous 11% have opened an account on Facebook for the single purpose of enabling themselves to watch over their son or daughter’s online activity. 16% of curious heads of families have sent their children an invitation of friendship on Facebook, but 30% have found their invitation turned down.

Having failed to become “friends” with their offspring online, 13% are not above logging in on their kid’s favorite social site using someone else’s account for better snooping.

Since there are nefarious people who take advantage of innocent and trusting youngsters online, the BullGuard’s spokesperson pointed out, this can be regarded as “legitimate concerns” on part of the watchful parents.

The Facebook creators ought to have counted on the site’s worldwide popularity, but they hardly thought that it will be used for generating baby names. Nevertheless that’s what happened when a couple in Israel began to cast about for a name for their newborn child.

According to the parents, Lior and Vardit Adler, they wanted their daughter to have a name that would be unordinary in a modern way when they hit upon the idea to use the name for the Facebook button.

They fell for the idea at once, and as soon as they had found that there was no such name in the whole of Israel, the little girl was saddled with the name Like.

The parents do not look on it as a strange name at all, reasoning that it is a modern version of the common Jewish name Ahava which is the Hebrew word for “love.”

Like’s father Lior spills that their Facebook announcement enjoyed popularity and brought them 40 “likes” – whereas it may be easily outweighed by the opinion of the girl herself when she grows up!

As part of the British national movement against overweight and obesity, a team from the University of Reading conducted a study of how and in what quantity various categories of the population consume fresh fruits and vegetables, which are a necessary component of a balanced diet.

It became an unexpected discovery for the investigation organizers that childless families eat far more fruit and vegetables compared to those people who have experienced the joy of parenthood. However, it had been assumed to happen vice a versa, since the presence of children in a family seems to automatically imply balanced and nutritious meals.

At the same time the difference in this criteria was highly significant. According to the specialists’ calculations, husbands and wives, having no children, had eaten almost four kilograms more fruits and vegetables for thirty days than moms and dads in the same age category.

In other words, children’s presence in a family significantly reduces the amount of fruits and vegetables eaten by parents. The scientists believe that the main factor behind such a strange pattern is a “negative” impact on parents by their children who often refuse to eat broccoli or carrots. And the more children there are in the family, the less fruits and vegetables are consumed by their parents.

Teenagers who have a strict and authoritative parent of the opposite sex are less likely to face the risk of alcohol problems. That was an unexpected result of the research conducted by the psychologists from the University of Baylor (USA).

The scientists interviewed 581 college students about their relationship with parents. Parents were divided into three types:

authoritarian (those who set strict rules, demand obedience and do not tolerate discussions)

authoritative (who also require strict adherence to rules, but are ready to have a dialogue)

allowing (those who behave with the child more like friends rather than parents).

It turned out that authoritative parents are best able to control their child’s life, and allowing parents can hardly do that. Authoritarian fathers and mothers were somewhere in between. And most importantly, the teenager finds it especially useful to closely cooperate with the parent of the opposite sex. That means that sons of authoritative mothers and daughters of influential fathers are most protected from the problems, alcohol in particular.

Judging by the latest online hit video that shows two 17-month boys deep in an earnest conversation, expectant parents may very soon have to learn baby language as a necessary part of their preparation program.

Sam and Wren’s parents confess that they have no inkling what their kids may be discussing in spite of the fact that they often talk to each other in what seems to be a full-featured language.

Have they made it up by themselves or do children really have a universal language different from any other in existence? Do they discuss the latest fashion in socks or compare their womb experience? Unfortunately, grown-ups are not privy to what is being said, but one thing is clear: the twins are having good time exchanging their views!

Scientists and linguists should get busy, for mankind may be on the verge of discovering a great secret of childhood!

Two hearts are better than one, twins mean twice the joy, but does it also mean twice the trouble? Not quite, but still there are some helpful tips to smooth your way through the birth and the subsequent months of child care.

While not exactly by two, there is going to be much more worry and scurry, so first of all don’t neglect rest. In fact, get as much of it as you can, that will make for a healthier pregnancy and help you brace yourself for what is coming. It may be a while before you get proper rest, running yourself and even a nanny off your feet round the clock. So relax and let’s get down to discussing some practical points.

Twins may want to see the light before the due time, so it’s a good idea to start buying baby clothes and diapers well in advance. Besides, you won’t have to bring in a great bundle of clothes at the last minute paying off a thick wad.

Another item you won’t want to purchase too late is a double stroller. See that it is sturdy to last longer when your twins get heavier and bear in mind that a tandem-type stroller may be better to negotiate doorways and narrow passages. Check whether it will hold the car seats.

Don’t buy everything in twos automatically, think what items can suffice by one. It may be a bouncy seat or a swing where your twins can take turns having fun, then staying away and then mounting them again making the pleasure fresher. At first twins may also do fine using one crib.

Breastfeeding will require a breast pump – and a good one, since it’s going to be in constant use. Choose the best double pump you can find; even if you mean to do without one, there will be times when it will stand you in good stead and enable to get help with feeding.

During the first several months you will be surely needing assistance at a short notice. A relative, a teenager next door whom you know well, a nurse for short spells to provide you coverage so you can get a shut-eye – even a short one will take you a long way!

Warn your pediatrician that you may need more of his or her service starting from the birth on through the hospital. When you have multiple babies chances that they arrive prematurely are higher and they’re liable to stay longer in the hospital than singles – some pediatrician care may be in the order.

And one more thing to prepare is yourself. Expecting is all right, but when the happy parents are actually holding their newborn twins, they usually run through all kinds of strong emotions, so be ready for short spells of shock and fear lest you fail to cope. They are quite natural feelings that will come and go, leaving behind only love that has come to stay and take you through the first strenuous days until you get into the stride.

Children’s dentist and former president of the Canadian Academy of Pediatric Dentistry Sarah Hulland warns that parents can infect their babies with tooth decay even when the child has not yet got its baby teeth.

Many parents believe that the first teeth fall out, so they are sure it is not necessary to treat them carefully. They think that baby teeth do not play a big role. Canadian scientists report about the results of their studies showing that the bacteria which cause tooth decay begin to accumulate in the mouth even before baby teeth erupt.

Dentists recommend brushing infant’s teeth and gums as early as possible. Doctors also believe that children’s dental health depends on the condition of their parents’ teeth. They found that dental caries is passed to younger generations.

For some people happiness is in mutual love and family hearth, other people will find high salaries, respectful attitude of their colleagues, and a prestigious position to be of utmost importance, while the third will consider personal growth and self-realization most significant. But how can adults feel really happy? Let’s watch our children and learn from them how to reach happiness.

Ask the question “Why?” more frequently. Inexhaustible curiosity leads to constant development. As stated in the commercial: “Do not let yourself wither”.

«Be simple, and people will like it”. Children do not pile complex structures around simple notions, as it is frequently done by grown-ups.

Happiness is in details. Ask the child what happiness is, and he will answer: ice cream, chocolate, a dog or at least a PSP. And when did you last feel the happiness given by such simple things?

Immediacy. It’s so nice to be natural, to be you in any company without the fear of being misunderstood.

Live today. Yes, children dream of becoming a chef, an astronaut, an actress (underline the right variant) when they grow up. However, it is such distant future for them, and it is much more important for them to see what happens today, what they are doing today, with whom they are meeting, and where they are going etc.

Love for nothing. Kids love you not because of your status, welfare or titles – they simply either love you or not.

Authenticity. Kids are real, they are not playing other people’s roles, they do not wear masks, and they are sincere.

Boundless imagination. Children are a powerful source of fantasies and dreams. And when did you do this simple and pleasant thing? When did you spend your time dreaming?

Constant mobility. Children are a perpetual motion machine, always jumping and wheeling all around the flat, and it is very difficult to make them sit on the same place for a long time. And how often do adults get up from their desk chair in the office or their sofa at home?

Always try something new. Today, they play tennis, yesterday they went to the pool, but tomorrow they will be singing on stage. If you cannot do anything it is not a problem because the world is full of so many interesting things, and one must find time to try and do something new in order to discover something to his/her taste. It is very good if, having become an adult, you do not stop looking for something different because there might be plenty of things you can enjoy.

If at least occasionally you behave and feel like a child, you will for sure live a complete and happy life without missing anything. Isn’t it happiness that should be the goal of one’s life?

When it comes to the subject of daughter Nahla’s custody, Gabriel Aubry isn’t going to lose to his former girlfriend Halle Berry so easily. Having received a slap in the first round, Aubry launched a counterattack.

The 32-year-old father took Nahla out for a stroll around the Los Angeles Zoo park. In full view of the people present and a paparazzi camera, the girl snuggled up to her dad while he was trying to show his affection and enjoyment of his 2-year-old girl’s company.

No matter how much of it was due to a desire to win over public sympathy and prove his parental worth to Berry, this open display of doting went counter statements from a source close to the actress that several times Nahla had returned home from a visit to her father in a state that was described as “traumatized”.

That latest part of the grim fight that is being fought in the media came several hours in the wake of the court permission for Berry to bring her daughter over to New York that will enable her to meet work commitments.

The actress’ previous attempt to take her daughter on a trip across the country seems to have been stymied by the French-Canadian model (who is out of work for the time being). This time, as can be alleged from what different sources give out, Berry extended an offer to her ex-boyfriend to get him a room at a hotel that would allow him to see the child while she will be away at the shoot. It is reported that Aubry turned the offer down, saying that there was no reason why she couldn’t just leave the child with him in Los Angeles (courtesy of TMZ).

But that’s just what Berry doesn’t want to do, harboring “serious concerns” about the judiciousness of leaving Nahla with her father – she was heard saying so in public.

Berry attended the hearing of the case at a Los Angeles court the other day; after the model had blocked her attempt to take Nahla along on a trip she made it to the court, even if it meant her chucking a role in New Year’s Eve. While she is being replaced by Katherine Heigl, who has already started on her part, Berry went off to be present at the custody case.

And her sacrifice hadn’t been in vain: the judge, having listened to what both sides had to say, ruled that she could take the daughter with her.

The court ruling made the 44-year-old actress happy, as was affirmed by her lawyer to the TMZ site after the hearing was over. He voiced his client’s gratitude to the judge for looking painstakingly into the matter, going through reams of documents and giving a fair opportunity to put forward arguments in this “very imminent and important issue”.

Besides, she was offered to stay in the film cast with another role assigned to her.

As for Aubry, who had filed a petition for partial custody of his daughter last December, he is said to have withdrawn it but is going to press on with a paternity action. A paternity action, unlike a custody petition, is not a procedure open for public attendance.

The model aims to secure the fatherly rights for Nahlia this way. He considers it essential because he is in possession of no written statement that would allow him access to his daughter. He is afraid that after their blow-up Berry may deny him access.

All the while his attempts to protect his parental rights were met with bursts of angry remonstrance. Aubry has already been accused of a stab at Berry on racial grounds.

Then the model was reported by a source, in an unsavory incident, to fume at hearing his daughter referred to as “black”.

By origin Nahla has white and African-American blood in her, and Berry was known – before their public animosity flared up – to say that to her the child is black. She added that she believes in the “one-drop theory”, the disputable historic attempt at racial classification.

It’s a habit with some children to stray off on their own every half an hour or so, and you can feel absolutely run off your feet from the chase long before the end of the day. There’s a tracking gadget that will help you cut down on the chase and set off in the right direction at once; the device is rather artlessly called Mommy I’m Here.

The parental control gadget comprises a small clippable cute bear that is fixed anywhere on the kid’s clothes and a receiver that the parent can wear as a keychain or simply put in the pocket. As soon as your kid gets away farther than 25 feet, the transmitter will start emitting beeping signals. If you need more guidance than that, there’s a button on your receiver that will make the bear roar out to you at 90db.

Mommy I’m Here works within a 150-foot range giving you ample time to work the button and impress your child with your running-after abilities. It works especially well when there are not too many parents around making use of the same device.

Chances are children who by the age 3 display the qualities of patience and self-control will grow into healthy, well-adapted and successful adults, a new research reveals.

The research carried out in New Zealand by a team of experts from different countries followed the development of approximately 1,000 children born in 1972-1973 from the age 3 to the age 32. Their self-control ability at various stages of life was gauged and their life conditions analyzed. The results were published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

The study shows that children who are unable to control themselves are more prone to acquire drinking and smoking habits, take to drugs, drop out of school. They often show poor social behavior like the inability to hold on to jobs or form a satisfying relationship.

Besides they seem to be far more besieged by health issues as they grow up and more likely to suffer from obesity, breathing difficulties, abnormal blood pressure and sexually transmitted ailments.

Lead researcher Terrie Moffitt of Duke University described the interrelation in terms of puzzle-solving, where a kid of 3 with sufficient self-control sticks with his or her puzzle until it is solved, derives satisfaction from the result and can socialize with another child over the solution process – whereas a kid with low self-control is inclined to give up solving when the puzzle won’t come out, displays restlessness, inconsistency, a tendency to quarrel with another child over the ways to do the puzzle and ends up frustrated and often in tears.

Scientists relate bad self-control to intolerance, impulsive and restless behavior, poor ability to take turns at a task and attain the set goal eventually.

Children with better self-control have been found to come from socioeconomically sound families and show higher IQ levels. Moffitt writes that self-control gives the ability for figuring out the lay of the land, careful planning, cooperating and maintaining good relations with other people. When adults those children can wait for better opportunities without wasting away from feverish snatching at short-term projects.

Researchers say that self-control can be taught and developed with age, and proper training during the child’s first ten years can amend their performance and bring in better results. They report that the children who acquired greater self-control attained more in adulthood than it could have been predicted from their grades.
