When brothers Wyatt and Jonas were getting on to four, Wyatt began to show his preference for dolls; he also loved donning girls’ clothes and high heels and walk about the house like this.

No-one paid much attention to that until the day when Wyatt stepped out dressed in his mother’s shoes and a sequined shirt. His parents wanted to know then if he felt comfortable in that kind of clothes and got an affirmative reply, according to the Boston Globe. Brother Jonas also told his dad that he’d better accept his brother as a girl and daughter.

It was an idea that didn’t sink in at once. Father, Wayne Maines, had been dreaming of handing down his passion for hunting to his sons and couldn’t wait until he would take them out to the Maine woods and hunt deer together. Now, at 14, Wyatt is definite that his is a girl’s life. She is known as Nicole and acts like a sister to his brother Jonas. She says she has always been looking on herself as a girl and it makes her “cringe” whenever she thinks of being a boy.

The only thing Nicole lacks is having a female body and she means to get it! She needs a body “that matches up to my image of myself’’ and intends to undergo gender reassignment surgery as soon as she can.

As officially confirmed by Carey’s rep to Us Weekly, on Saturday the Grammy-winning singer, 42, and her husband Nick Cannon, 30, became parents to twins, a boy and a girl. The children were born at a hospital in L.A. a few minutes after midday.

When Carey went into labor, Cannon got her in their Rolls-Royce Phantom to the hospital at once. The singer stayed cool – she believed it was another false onset – but her husband was all in a flurry. According to Berger’s story to the Associated Press, Cannon even couldn’t find his way to the maternity ward and got lost in the hospital until a nurse showed him the way. It all reminded Burger of an I Love Lucy skit.

(The TV and radio host had known beforehand that he would be overwhelmed by emotions in the delivery room long before the actual event; his Twitter messages told of his attempts to brace up for the great moment. He proclaimed to be “in awe” of his wife for her strength in the face of the childbirth ordeal.)

The girl came first, born 18 inches and 5 lb 3 oz, and then the boy who was an inch longer and 3 oz heavier than his sister.

Recounting his hospital experience to the Los Angeles Times, Cannon said that the twins seem ready to come out of the natural incubator, but it’s better to keep them in for a longer time, so there they will stay.

1. Twins may want to see the light before the due time, so it’s a good idea to start buying baby clothes and diapers well in advance. Besides, you won’t have to bring in a great bundle of clothes at the last minute paying off a thick wad.
2. Another item you won’t want to purchase too late is a double stroller. See that it is sturdy to last longer when your twins get heavier and bear in mind that a tandem-type stroller may be better to negotiate doorways and narrow passages. Check whether it will hold the car seats.
3. Don’t buy everything in twos automatically, think what items can suffice by one. It may be a bouncy seat or a swing where your twins can take turns having fun, then staying away and then mounting them again making the pleasure fresher. At first twins may also do fine using one crib.
4. Breastfeeding will require a breast pump – and a good one, since it’s going to be in constant use. Choose the best double pump you can find; even if you mean to do without one, there will be times when it will stand you in good stead and enable to get help with feeding.
5. During the first several months you will be surely needing assistance at a short notice. A relative, a teenager next door whom you know well, a nurse for short spells to provide you coverage so you can get a shut-eye – even a short one will take you a long way!
6. Warn your pediatrician that you may need more of his or her service starting from the birth on through the hospital. When you have multiple babies chances that they arrive prematurely are higher and they’re liable to stay longer in the hospital than singles – some pediatrician care may be in the order.

And one more thing to prepare is yourself. Expecting is all right, but when the happy parents are actually holding their newborn twins, they usually run through all kinds of strong emotions, so be ready for short spells of shock and fear lest you fail to cope. They are quite natural feelings that will come and go, leaving behind only love that has come to stay and take you through the first strenuous days until you get into the stride.

An official statement issued by St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Fla. denies the rumors that Dion, 42, and her husband Rene Angelil, 68, pre-scheduled the birth and are indulging in excessive pregnancy care demands. Dion is undergoing “the standard of care for any patient with twin pregnancy in this clinical setting” aimed at prevention of an early birth.

Focusing on the well-being of the twins, the couple intends to stay in close touch with doctors and clinical facilities during the latter months of the pregnancy, the statement accentuates.

Aware of the previous IVF miscarriages (the latest one talked over with Oprah Winfrey last year), Dion and Angelil are going to do everything possible to ensure a successful delivery – a priority for any couple “who face these procreation techniques,” as Angelil put it last November when talking with a French-Canadian newspaper.

Stefania had a heart transplant in 2008, and just several months after the operation she knew she was pregnant. Many doctors, however, believed that having a baby after heart transplant would still put her life at great risk. Nevertheless, Stefania and her husband decided to keep the babies. They didn’t change their mind even as they knew that one of the twins was at grave risk. Finally, twin daughters were born prematurely weighing 4lbs 2oz and 2lbs 13oz. Doctors at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center in New Jersey say that mother and the twins are out of danger now.

The list of transplantable organs is growing every year. In addition to heart, kidney and liver, we now have lungs, pancreatic gland and even face transplant. Transplant patients not only survive, they enjoy a full life like others, working, exercising and having babies.

Nadya Suleman may soon find herself – and her numerous brood – evicted from her home in La Habra, California. She and her father have been neglecting payments lately.

Borrowing money doesn’t seem to have done the trick. Even considering the fact that Angela never got back a cent of what she had lent to her daughter. And that ran up to quite a sum! “I had two houses, and now I’m in a rental,” says Angela.

Declaring that she is done with solving her daughter’s problems, the lady nevertheless goes to see her grandchildren regularly and is ready to discuss them with alacrity. The octuplets are getting on to become fine and strapping children who are, in Angela’s eyes, “so lovable”. Now that they all are beginning to run and move about more, their grandmother (who is quite likely to be losing her home soon) is concerned that they need more room to play in.

According to Angela, four of the octuplets are two pairs of identical twins, and their mother cannot tell them apart!

Besides, there are six other children living in Nadya’s home.

She is “so out of it, she doesn’t care,” the grandmother of eight concludes.

The newborns will have to stay under medical observation for three months.  As far as their chances for survival are concerned, it will take at least a month to give a final answer, the doctor said.

Six twins – four girls and two boys – weighs from 600 to 800 grams. Oliva, who had cesarean delivery, gave them birth when she was 26 weeks pregnant. The babies are currently staying in an incubator on assisted breathing apparatus.

Their mother is now in intensive care, but her condition does not raise medical concerns. It was the first pregnancy for Oliva, which she’s been waiting for five years.

The father of six twins, a construction worker Pino Mele who lost his job recently has asked for financial support. He said that grandmothers and grandfather would definitely help, but the state could also throw a lifeline to the family.

The mother of thirteen children told the press all she can dream of is having twins or triplets. It’s her heart’s desire and she’ll continue to get pregnant until she gets it. Operations of twins separation is considered to be an extremely difficult affair requiring great skill and precision; few centers undertake to perform them because of a high fatality risk. Although the risk is calculated at 50 % for brain damage and 25 % for death, most of these operations have been reported to end in the death of twins.

But surgeons from Melbourne, Australia, who ventured to perform the operation, came out victors!

16 neuro- and plastic surgeons toiled through the night to ensure lest any nerve be injured and managed to stave off the death threat. But whether the twins sustained any brain damage is still to be seen.

After the operation both girls were removed to the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne where they are kept under unyielding surveillance. They are reported to be recovering well, preparing for the next stage of the reconstruction.

“Their bodies have to recover from this, and we’ve got a lot of unknown territory we’re moving into,” commented Leo Donnan, Chief of Surgery.

Donnan and his colleagues went on to describe their “surreal” feelings as they saw the girls come apart and realized that they were giving them the chance to live out their own personalities without undue physical dependence on one another.

The successful operation, all stages included, lasted for 27 hours.

Such phenomenon is very rare (there are only ten reported cases) and is called superfetation. It happens when a woman ovulates more than once a month and a second egg is fertilized soon after a pregnancy has already begun.

According to the Grovenburgs’ obstetrician Michael Mailart, the superfetation can be verified after birth by comparing the babies’ chromosome set and metabolism.

It’s curious that due to his location in the womb, a second baby should be born first; either it will be a vaginal delivery or a Cesarean section. Due dates for the babies are 2009 and 2010.

Sian says that she knew that she was facing very high risk of miscarriage, but she decided to give her babies equal chances to live. Fortunately, there was no miscarriage and Taylor, Tyler, and Levi were born eleven weeks premature (May 28 instead of August 11). The babies were so small that they had to stay in incubators for some time.

As for now, when the difficulties are over and the triplets are home with their parents, Sian can calmly recall the days they spent at the hospital. The happy mom admits that three babies is surely a lot to deal with, and yet she says that she is happy to have them regardless of the fact that they daily need 24 diapers and 18 bottles of milk. According to Nadya, the number of embryos that were transferred to her uterus originally was less than eight, but she gave birth to eight due to division.
