Pregnancy puts on extra pounds on a woman. Some women put on just a few that they lose right after the baby is born, and some unlucky women even put on hundreds. It all depends on the woman and her nutrition, body type, and other uncontrollable factors. After having a baby, of course most women want to get rid of the extra pounds. One idea is to have liposuction to get rid of the excess fat.

There are a few pros and a few cons to this procedure. Technically after giving birth to a child and waiting about 6-8 months, there is nothing wrong with having liposuction, especially if it is going to help you feel better as a woman and therefore as a mom. It is advised however to wait at least that amount of time to give your body time to heal from the damage done by the arduous process of childbirth and to get back to a somewhat normal health level. The issues with liposuction is that it removes the fat, but fat can grow back. If you don’t learn how to maintain your weight and follow the doctor’s orders during the liposuction recovery stage then it will be pointless. In a matter of weeks, you’ll be back to square one. It can also be dangerous if too much fat is removed. If you are opting for liposuction do not opt for more than 6-8 pounds in one session. Even this is usually divided into two sessions.

Another alternative to liposuction might be a tummy tuck or tummy liposuction. A tummy tuck can get rid of the excess skin and might give you a more permanent, lasting result as opposed to liposuction after the birth of a child. However, moms planning to have this procedure must be done with having more children as it involves having the skin on the tummy area permanently improved. So mothers, the choice is yours.

When it became clear that a young Englishwoman had got pregnant again despite taking the contraceptive pill, the doctors decided that she simply had not followed the instructions as for taking it. But she became pregnant again and again, though she had referred to a more reliable method of intrauterine spiral.

Gemma Potter, the resident of the English city of Plymouth, is only 23 years old now. In 2006, when she met her future husband, she was a very young girl. Their love was passionate and mutual, but soon Gemma noticed a strange thing: all the contraceptives, which she resorted to, were completely ineffective.

As a result, she has given birth to three children during 5 years, and two pregnancies ended in miscarriages.

But the most piquant is the fact that the woman with three children and a young mother – judging by modern standards – is pregnant for the sixth time, although she took every precaution to prevent pregnancy.

Gemma and her husband Glenn made love no more than three times from the beginning of September until early December – once a month, as it turns out. The woman was very worried that she would get pregnant once again. But there was no way to escape her fate. Neither pills, nor intrauterine devices and hormone injections could help her. During the fall, she and Glenn used condoms, but Gemma still got pregnant.

At first, the doctors, whom she spoke with, only smiled and advised her to comply with the prescribed rules for the use of various contraceptive methods more carefully. But now they look at the woman as a kind of a medical phenomenon.

Gemma complains she has forgotten what a party with friends is like. She has forgotten the taste of champagne, whiskey, and wine. She will never be able to find a good job again, and all of that is because she is constantly pregnant. Gemma loves her children and her husband, but she is terribly afraid to once again discover that she is pregnant.

The woman decided that in future she would take advantage of this feature of her organism. After giving birth to their fourth child, Gemma is going to become a surrogate mother.

As reported by The Daily Mail, the midwife felt premature contractions a few hours after she went home from her work at hospital in the evening of December 10. According to the 28-year-old woman, it was the first birth, so she knew that the contractions would be long. The woman decided to wait, until they subsided.

Despite this fact, the frequency of the contractions continued to increase, and the pregnant woman decided to move to the bathroom. The woman’s relatives called the team of doctors. However, Clarke-Wood managed to give birth to a child before their arrival. She delivered the baby, using a small make-up mirror and towels.

The midwife gave birth to a daughter in the morning of December 11. The weight of the newborn girl was about three kilograms.

Clarke-Wood has been working as a midwife at Croydon University Hospital since 2008. According to the newly formed mother, she had assisted the delivery of thousands of women during the period of her work, and many of those women gave birth at home.

The fact that she was 39 weeks into pregnancy proved no deterrent either.

Neither must she have thought that immediately upon completing the Chicago Marathon she would be called upon to give birth to her child… But that’s exactly what happened.

Amber seemed to have completed the 26.2-mile stretch with no trouble at all, having outran her less burdened husband Joe Miller by a long chalk (she came 34,339th against his finishing 34,997th).

Her participation moved the audience to root for her with cries “Go pregnant lady” until she crossed the finish line, upon which feat she sat down to bite at her sandwich – but never finished it due to the onset of labors. She was whisked to the Central DuPage Hospital and delivered herself of daughter June, supposedly the first baby to ever have run a marathon!

June is the second child to the athletic Miller family.

A pregnant English woman, Nathalie Hoyland, is worried that she might oversleep the delivery day of her own child. As reported by Daily Mail, the resident of England suffers from a rare ailment called Klein-Levin syndrome which enables a human being to sleep for a month or longer.

The first attack of the disease appeared when Nathalie was 17 years old. She felt tired at work and sat down to have a rest. Just a couple of minutes later she was soundly sleeping in her chair. All her colleagues’ attempts to wake Natalie were in vain. During her lifetime, Nathalie Hoyland has already overslept a few of their birthdays and her friends’ weddings, as well as many months of work. In the intervals of wakefulness, the girl feels good, except for the periods of physical collapse and confusion of consciousness.

Now the Englishwoman has been pregnant for six months and feels extremely worried that she might oversleep the most significant moments in her life. The girl admits that she cannot help thinking she loses a lot of great moments and sensations during her pregnancy. But what terrifies her most of all is the fact that another attack may happen to her after giving birth.

American scientists have created a functioning artificial ovary which, according to their data, became the first three-dimensional tissue structure with three cellular lines of different types to have ever been created.

In order to create the ovary, the researchers from Brown University in Rhode Island primarily formed “honeycombs” from donor thecal ovary cells. When these cells grew to reach the required shape, granular cells and oocytes (immature female gametes) were inserted in the created “cells”. In such a way, the artificial organ got the structure analogous to a real ovary.

In the course of the experiment, the artificial ovary proved able to secure full maturing of the ovules so that they were ready for impregnation which showed its complete functionality.

According to the creators Sandra Carson and Steven Krotz, their invention is not aimed at being implanted into a woman’s organism. The scientists’ purpose is to use it for studying the normal work of ovaries and their functioning under the influence of various outer factors. In future, the artificial organ will be possibly applied to preserve the ovules of the women experiencing radiotherapy or chemotherapy.

During pregnancy, especially with the onset of the third trimester, a belly becomes increasingly larger as a fetus and subjacent tissues grow in size. And as the skin doesn’t keep up with the growth, it results in overstretching and torn subcutaneous tissues. These tissue tears emerge as richly pink spots on the skin and then pale into white scars. They are scars indeed, formed in the area of tears which have been restored with connective tissue, as with any external cut. Besides belly, pregnancy stretch marks may appear on hips, buttocks and breasts.

Why Do Stretch Marks Change The Color with Time?

The tear is restored with connective tissue filled with blood vessels needed to sustain its growth. That’s why stretch marks are pink when they appear. As connective tissue stops growing, blood vessels no longer pump blood so the connective tissue grows pale. Scar tissue doesn’t have any pigments so stretch marks stay white even when you get suntan.

Why do some women have stretch marks and others don’t?

Outer layer of skin has some elasticity potential which may vary for every woman. So some women may get stretch marks in earlier pregnancy period while others won’t have them even with a very big belly. This difference in skin elasticity depends on genes. If your mother or grandmother didn’t have pregnancy stretch marks, your odds to get them become very small. On the other hand, if someone in your family did have stretch marks, you are likely to have them, too.

The following factors increase the risk of stretch marks:

Unbalanced diet, carcinogens in food;

Smoking during pregnancy;

Age of pregnant woman (elasticity weakens with age);

Weak belly muscles (abdominal muscles)

Pointed pregnancy belly (often if pelvis is narrow);

Accelerated weight gain during the third trimester;

Metabolism disorders (diabetes, obesity).

How to Prevent Stretch Marks during Pregnancy

Weight control during pregnancy. Try to gain weight gradually and what’s most important, don’t seek to eat more;

Balanced diet. Enrich your pregnancy diet with vitamins and minerals for healthy skin;

Use of bandage may reduce the pressure on lower belly and ease the stretching of skin;

Belly massage using olive oil for better blood circulation and blood flow to the skin. This would strengthen skin tissues and improve skin elasticity.

Use of special skin care products against stretches. Appling creams and body lotions on a regular basis may improve skin elasticity, although you don’t have to expect these products to make wonders for you if you are susceptible to stretch marks.

If you had stretch marks in your first pregnancy, it doesn’t mean you’ll have them in your succeeding pregnancies. Short break between childbirth and a second pregnancy makes it quite possible you won’t have new stretch marks.

If you already have stretch marks

It’s important to remember that stretch marks are not disorders, they are not harmful for your health. They are natural for the process of giving a new life. Obviously, every woman wants to have a beautiful skin before and after pregnancy. But stretch marks are not so high a price to pay for the joy of motherhood. What’s more, stretch marks may never happen.
