How Did Natalie Portman Name Her Son?

When it comes to naming kids, Natalie Portman (and her fiancé Benjamin Millepied) can really turn up a fairly agreeable surprise. PEOPLE had it from a source that their son will be named Aleph.

Alternatively spelled sometimes as “alef,” the name takes us into the world of Hebrew esotericism, being the name of the first letter akin to Greek alpha. It has a meaning of one signifying the One God Master of the Universe, and its pictograph is the head of a bull that stands for strength, leadership, unity and stability. It also carries a sexual meaning with the connotations of penetration and impregnation.

The 30-year-old actress and Millepied worked together on Black Swan that brought her an Oscar for Best Actress.
