Is Carla Bruni Pregnant?

The question whether Carla Bruni is bearing President of the French Republic Nicolas Sarkozy’s baby is still being kept very much under cover, but not for long, it seems.

The 43-year-old First Lady, who used to be a model, singer and songwriter and is to star in the film Midnight in Paris, doesn’t feel too well keeping mum about her private life. She was open with reporters about her in-born wish to discuss her everyday life, relations in the family and her thoughts, dreams and opinions with a sympathetic listener, being talkative by nature, but said she understood that she was in no position to do so.

Yet on Monday, at a question-and-answer session, Bruni had to part with at least a hint of what is really happening. A reporter from the Le Parisien inquired whether any news of her and President Sarkozy’s baby can be expected within the following half-year, and she said “Yes!” with a smirk.

The First Lady knows better than to cause her husband any discomposure through her indiscretions. Reuters quoted her saying that she clams up not because she is arrogant or taciturn – on the contrary, she would have been glad had she had a chance of talking freely about everything that concerns her life. Yet she said “my lips are sealed to protect all the work” her husband is doing.

Notwithstanding, some things cannot remain concealed for long: on all of her latter-day photos Bruni is wearing loose clothes (which is not her usual clothing preference) and screens her stomach with a sizeable shawl.

The alleged baby will be Bruni’s second and the 56-year-old president’s fourth, but their first one together.
