No Other Baby for Katie Holmes While Suri Is Growing up

Katie Holmes, discussing her life in the October issue of Marie Claire, lets out that she and Tom Cruise are not planning to have another baby for the time being.

The actress says she feels she must be here for Suri, their first 4-year-old child, wholeheartedly. In this attitude she harks back to her own family, where she, the youngest of five siblings, was nevertheless significantly younger than they and, with five years difference between her and the older sister, felt like she was the only child. Her mother’s almost undivided attention meant much to her. In fact, Holmes’s mom is an example and inspiration for her now she is a mother herself.

The Romantics star is deep into her career and it’s quite a task to persevere in being a considerate mother, but there’s never been any question of giving up. Despite a great deal of traveling, Holmes manages to maintain an unchanging daily schedule for her daughter, including all the basic chores for the young like making her bed, clearing the table and putting soiled clothes away for laundering. “If she doesn’t get her chores done, I notice she’s not really herself,” the mom smiles.

Of course it’s not all chores, chores, chores – there’s time for playing with dolls and making clothes for them, for art projects, time spent outside tending the garden together… “Keep her busy and inspired” is Holmes’s motto in bringing up her daughter, and it originated from the customary relations between parents and children that existed in her own family.

Holmes, 31, and Cruise, 48, take pains not to stay apart for longer than a week or two.
