Common Chemicals Prevent Conception
Lots of families face the problem of infertility. They have long been trying to conceive a child, but their attempts end in failure. According to recent studies, toxic substances that are found in water, soil, and food can be the reason for that.
Specific groups of harmful substances, organochlorine pollutants, can be preserved in the environment for decades. Some of them are dissolved in fats when accumulated in the adipose tissue, which has a negative impact on human health.
Other substances are perfluorinated compounds, which are also very toxic. They are used in the manufacture of furniture, clothing, packaging materials for foods, and non-stick coatings for cookware.
The authors of the study note that many of the toxic substances occur in dairy products and animal fats, which come to our table.
The scientists from the Division of Epidemiology, Statistics and Prevention Research at the National Institutes of Health in Rockville had been conducting a surveillance of 500 pairs during a single year. They all wanted to conceive. The experts studied their blood for the maintenance of various chemical substances, perfluorinated organochlorines in particular. Female participants of the research had a special diary to write down the results of pregnancy tests, as well as their menstrual cycle in general.
The experts concluded that the couples, who demonstrated a large presence of toxins in the blood, could not conceive a child for a longer time than those with a smaller amount of these substances. There is, however, an interesting fact: toxins have a more vivid negative impact on men.
