Why Do Children Need a Sleep-Wake Schedule?

Violation of sleep is bad for the behavior and brain development in children.

This was stated by doctors at University College London. In the study, they examined data on sleep schedule among more than 10 thousand children aged 3, 5 and 7, and talked to their parents about their children’s behavioral problems.

It was found that sleep schedule was mostly violated in children aged 3. Up to seven years, it stabilized. Children with violated sleep-wake schedule often had a lower social status.

According to doctors, irregular bedtime leads to failure of circadian rhythms and threatens with lack of sleep, which, in turn, disrupts the development of a child’s brain.

Also, due to non-adherence to sleep schedule, a child may experience hyperactivity, poor learning ability and emotional instability. You can correct the situation, if you make the child go to bed on time, according to the authors of the study.
