Working during Pregnancy
The woman, who becomes pregnant after infertility treatment or after an adverse ending of the previous pregnancy and suffers from chronic diseases or pregnancy complications, should take care of herself. Especially in those cases when her labor activities are associated with stress, using public transport, and facing adverse environmental factors.
The work, which is characterized by the factors that could have a damaging effect on the fetus, is completely contraindicated for pregnant women (regardless of their state of health).
These factors include:
- radioactive and X-ray radiation;
- chemical products, contacts with metal vapors, varnishes, paints, and fuels;
- heavy physical labor, including the work associated with weight lifting;
- different vibration (when working on transport, clothing manufacturing, etc.);
- if a woman is forced to be standing for three hours or more;
- jobs in too wet, dry or cold atmosphere;
- Daily use of transport for more than an hour.
Therefore, trade workers, professional workers, employees of medical and social sphere, as well as the personnel of services sector are at risk. Alas, unfavorable work can lead to premature birth even in case of normal pregnancy.
Try to give up working at the computer during the first 8-9 weeks of pregnancy (or at least limit the time to 1-2 hours).
A pregnant woman should not lift more than 5 kilograms and carry more than 3 kg. When carrying weights, the pressure in the abdomen increases, which can lead to placental abruption, miscarriage, and premature birth.
