Artificial Ovary to Substitute Hormonal Therapy

The scientific world has witnessed a sensational invention – an artificial ovary has been created.

This discovery was made by the specialists at the University of Wake Forest, USA. They claim that such a development will be an excellent alternative for women in the future. It has long been known that sex hormones are not produced after menopause or as a result of damage to the ovaries. Such a phenomenon often leads to osteoporosis and even infertility. Nowadays, replacement therapy is the only method of recovery of the sex hormones. But, unfortunately, it has many side effects.

The experiments have been conducted in which the experts studied laboratory mice. They used two types of cells that produce hormones. At the beginning of the experiment, these cells were placed in a special algae capsule. After this, the capsule was subjected to the effect of the pituitary compound, which promotes hormone production. The experiment has shown that the hormones were produced by the cells in the same amount as in the healthy ovaries. The scientists believe that the development of artificial ovaries will help solve problems with fewer side effects than in the case of hormone therapy.
