What Harm Does TV Cause To Children?

Influential Health journal has published the study by Australian scientist revealing that the more children and teenagers are exposed to TV and computers, the worse their relationships with their parents and peers.

Teenager and Computer

Researchers looked at the data on over 4,000 teenagers aged between 14 and 16 years relating to their pastime and relationships with peers and parents.

The study was conducted in two stages, the first one was in 1988, and the second one finished just recently. It has emerged that in 80-s every extra hour of watching TV increased the problems in relationships with parents by 13 per cent, and with peers – by 24 per cent.

Today, this harmful trend persists, the more time teenagers spend watching TV or using computer, the worse their relationships with parents and friends.

Particularly, Health reports that every hour of watching TV increases the risk of developing weak emotional bond with parents by 4 per cent. This figure reaches 5 per cent when teenagers use computer.
