When Do Children Develop Reasoning Abilities?
German scientist discovered children can fully understand their mistakes by the time they reach 12 years of age, an Italian science journal Psicologia e Salute reports.
Researchers emphasize children simply don’t have fully developed reasoning abilities before that age. They respond to their mistakes emotionally by feeling resentment or anger for corrections.
From the age of 12 on, teenagers start to analyze their past negative experience trying to reason out conclusions. German scientists say this is primarily related to the differences in brain development. In particular, the activity in the brain area that is responsible for analyzing past experiences is slower in children under 12 years old.
