Whining Proved to Be the Most Annoying Noise
A team of scientists from Clark University in Massachusetts has established that nothing is so irritating and disturbing as the sound of a child whining. Their research revealed that the annoying quality of the sound exceeds those of any other noise in the world.
A group of volunteers were set the task of solving a number of math problems while they were being distracted by different noises through headphones.
Thus it emerged that the sound of a whining baby caused the most mistakes and interfered with the performance most as compared to a conversation, an adult person crying, the sounds of active sawing and other irritating noises.
Aiming to most efficiently draw their parents’ attention, children are reported to be at their most annoying when they are from 2 to 4 years old – luckily, they lose the gift later on.
