Developing Positive Thinking in Kids
All parents dream of their children growing up healthy and happy. Not everyone realizes that the attitude with which a child goes through life and achieves their goals is laid in early childhood. If parents manage to form the right way of thinking and a positive attitude in their children, they will be happier and more satisfied with life as adults, regardless of where life takes them. We have collected interesting games and important tips to help you develop positive thinking in your child.
It’s easy to start
Positive thinking allows people to get through difficult times more easily, suffer less from stress and other negative phenomena, and even be healthier. To teach children to look positively at the world around them and themselves in it, you can start with a simple but very cool game called the “A Jar of Happiness”.
Find a large and nice jar to serve as your props. You can decorate it with your child. The jar must be placed in a conspicuous place in the house so that every family member has free access to it.
Every day, parents and children should write on paper every good thing that happened to them that day. You need to describe all the pleasant states, from a delicious breakfast to a perfectly passed exam. The papers are put in the jar for six months. After that, they need to be taken out and read in the family circle.
Note that such a simple game allows you to focus on the good. The information that people transfer onto paper is stored in the head better than the information that the person has not talked about anywhere. In addition, in the process of this game, the child will learn to think about good things, appreciate small pleasures and be grateful.
Important questions
To form positive thinking, you need to ask children the right questions from time to time, which will help them understand themselves and look for the good in the world around them.
- What are your five best qualities?
- What makes you happy?
- What’s your happiest memory?
- What advice would you give yourself when you were a small kid?
- For what are you most grateful to fate?
- What qualities in people do you value the most?
- How would you change the world if you could?
There is always a way out
Another useful game that will allow your child to think positively is to describe a difficult situation, inviting your child to find a way out of it.
For example, a man bought two packages of groceries, but at the cashier’s desk, he discovered that he had left his wallet at home.
Or: You left the house because of something important, and suddenly it began to rain.
After the child answers, you need to exchange places. Now they have to come up with difficult tasks for you, and you will solve them.
A few more life hacks
Positive thinking is formed through daily rituals, words of approval, and events in the child’s life. To make your kid look at the world with happy eyes, try to do the following things more often:
- dream, make plans, discuss prospects,
- do not use the word “Never”
- encourage your child more often, say words of approval,
- always give your child the opportunity to correct mistakes,
- make surprises
- joke and smile.
It is worth noting that only those adults who feel happy can teach happiness to children. Therefore, it is very important to start with learning to be happy yourself. This will be your most valuable gift to your children.
