Tibetan Parenting Rules
We’ve already told you about the parenting principles of Maria Montessori. Today, we would like to share with you some information on Tibetan parenting.
No humiliation and corporal punishment. The only reason to beat children is that they cannot fight back.
The first period lasts up to 5 years
The child should be treated “like a king.” Nothing can be prohibited; one should only distract. If the child does something dangerous, have a frightened face and utter a frightened cry. The child understands that language perfectly. This is the period when activity, curiosity, and interest in life are shaped. The child is still unable to build long logical chains. For example, he/she broke an expensive vase. The child does not understand that you will have to work to earn money and buy a vase. Punishment will be perceived as suppression from the position of strength. You will teach the child not to break vases and obey whoever is stronger. Do you really want it?
The second period is from 5 to 10
At this time, the child should be treated “like a slave.” Set a task before him/her and require its realization. You can punish your child if he/she fails to accomplish the task (it should not be corporal punishment). At this time, intelligence is developing actively. The child must learn to predict people’s reactions to his/her actions, cause a positive attitude to him/her and avoid negative manifestations. At this time, do not be afraid to load the child with knowledge.
The third period is from 10 to 15
How to raise a child in this period? How to cope with him/her? Treat the child as an equal. Not on equal terms, but namely “as an equal”. You still have more experience and knowledge. Consult with him/her on all important issues, provide and promote independence. Impose your will “in velvet gloves” – in the process of discussion, by giving tips and advice. If you do not like anything, pay your attention to the negative consequences and avoid outright bans. At this time, the autonomy and independence of thought are developing.
The last period starts at 15 years
Treat the child with respect. It is late to bring up the child, and you only have to reap the fruits of your labor.
What consequences can non-compliance with these rules cause?
- If you suppress the child up to 5 years, you suppress his/her vitality, zest for life, and intelligence. You will teach him to mindlessly and habitually obey brutal force. You will make him/her an easy prey for all kinds of villains.
- If you continue to lisp after 5, the child will grow infantile, unable to work and will lack spiritual efforts.
- If you treat the child as a baby after 10, he/she will grow unconfident; the child will depend on a more independent friend who may not always have the desired impact.
- If you do not respect the child after 15, he/she will not forgive you and will leave you forever as soon as possible.
