Alanis Morissette Wasn’t Ready to Become Mom

With the birth of Alanis Morissette’s first child, her life took an unexpected turn, making the singer feel as if she became a totally new person – having to learn the rules on the way!

Alanis Morissette was not ready to have baby

The 37-year-old Grammy Award winner has an almost-a-year-long motherhood experience, having given birth to son Ever Imre last Christmas (now 10 months) by husband Mario “Souleye” Treadway – and with that she started off upon a journey to the unknown.

She began to sum up her experience on her blog on iVillage starting Monday, and the first thing she confessed was her astonishment at how bad she had been prepared for the new life. True, she had brushed up some on how to deliver by watching DVDs, but the actual experience of a tiny human being emerging from her body was so overwhelming as to exceed her expectations.

After that, she wrote, she relied on her usual approach of rising to the occasion… Only to discover that her life had changed so drastically that her mind went blank, and no guidelines could have helped her along. The playing up of hormones, sleep problems, the feeling of all-embracing responsibility and other changes brought about by the birth made her gasp at the sheer unpredictability of her state.

On that morning she definitely felt that “life literally and figuratively moved through me,” Morissette shares. She felt as if she was being pressed unmercifully into a new realization of what it means to be a human being –relating both to her child and herself. She said that she had been reborn on the same day to be what she had always wanted to be!
