How Did The Beckhams Name Their Baby Girl?

After the three Beckham boys (Brooklyn, 12, Romeo, getting on to 9, and Cruz, over 6) David and Victoria are happy welcoming a girl – named, somewhat surprisingly, Harper Seven Beckham. But if one looked more carefully into the family history, maybe there’s deep logic under the quaint name.

As for Harper, as PEOPLE got from a trusted source, that’s easy – it’s just a favorite English name with Victoria, one that goes back a long time. But Seven seems to have stuck to the baby girl all by itself.

The first Beckham girl was born in the seventh month on Sunday, the seventh day of the week, and weighed 7 lbs (plus 10 oz). She saw the light of day in L.A.’s Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in the morning, in the seventh hour. So, while seven is considered to be a lucky number by itself, it is clearly little Harper’s own number! Besides, as football fans will surely cut in to add, seven was David’s jersey number both at the English national team and at Manchester United.

Numbers do haunt Harper Seven – it is reported that the Irish bookmaking firm of Paddy Power has already come up with betting offers: odds of 100:1 are on H7 joining the England Women’s team to show her sporting prowess after her dad. Or if you are willing to bet on her becoming a pop star in the wake of her mother the odds are 16:1.

But it’s in the future yet, and now, as the Beckhams’ rep shares, the lucky couple is spending their time at home enjoying a quiet family atmosphere, taking care of the newcomer and “relishing their privacy.”
