What Does the Name of Beyoncé’s Daughter Mean?

January 7 is the birthday of Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s little girl, and Blue Ivy Carter is her name. There’s nothing pink about that girl, but she is all done in blue. According to what a source spilled to PEOPLE, the expectant parents even sent out blue Christmas gifts to their friends as a symbolic harbinger of their daughter’s arrival.

Fans and friends speculate that the name Ivy is the verbal variation of the Roman number IV, or 4, which plays an eminent part in the lives of Beyoncé and Jay-Z and in turn is played up by them.

Their birthdays fall on the 4th – September for Beyoncé and December for Jay-Z – and the day of their marriage was also the 4th (April 2008). It is believed that they had IV tattooed on their ring fingers. Beyoncé’s latest album was also entitled 4.

On the other hand, three of Jay-Z’s albums were named The Blueprint – the first of these came out in 2001, the second, subtitled The Gift & The Curse, in the following year, and The Blueprint 3 was released in 2009. It contains the track A Star Is Born where Jay-Z refers to himself as the paragon rapper, blueprint for all rappers (not for the first time by far!). Therefore, the Blue in his daughter’s name may echo her dad’s musical personality.

There were some who tumbled to the name significance straightaway, as evidenced by a few Twitter messages like the one from @kisssmyDIAMONDS that tied up the Blue to Jay-Z’s The Blueprint, which was in the same breath proclaimed as the rapper’s “hottest album ever.” An @omgitsralph’s tweet linked IVy to IV and 4, known as a special number for Beyoncé, and Blue to Jay-Z’s Blueprint series of albums, thereby tying up both parents in their girl’s name.

Until the parents have confirmed or denied the tie-ups it’s all pure conjecture, of course, but it sounds pretty conclusive.

Meanwhile, another Twitter message from Aunt Solange of Sunday stated that Blue Ivy Carter is the prettiest baby in the world, and no-one doubts that!
