Margarine Worse than Butter

According to The Daily Mail, nutritionists have always advised to give up butter and include margarine in the diet. In the past 50 years, physicians have constantly reminded us that we should reduce the amount of saturated animal fats, making a choice in favor of polyunsaturated vegetable fats. Now, the American experts, who analyzed the study conducted in 1966-1973 and involving 458 men, aged 30-59 years, who suffered a heart attack or had stenocardia, call to reconsider our attitude to butter.

Half of the participants of the study reduced the intake of animal fat by replacing it with safflower oil and margarine made from this oil. As a result, this diet nearly doubled the risk of death from various causes, including heart disease.

During the survey, the focus was on the consumption of omega-6, which is a polyunsaturated fatty acid. The acid is converted to arachidonic acid in the body, resulting in the release of compound substances that cause inflammation. A chronic inflammation is associated with chronic diseases. Despite the unambiguous character of the scientists’ findings, many people in the scientific community doubt that they are correct.
