Solid Food Introduced to Babies Too Early

Introducing “adult food” to infants too early causes health problems in babies, that is why doctors do not recommend expanding the baby’s diet until it is 4-6 months old.

Epidemiologist from the Department of Nutrition, Physical Activity, Overweight and Obesity at the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, Kelly Scanlon, reminds that children under the age of 4 months should not receive anything other than breast milk or baby mixtures. Their bodies cannot process any other food at this age. In addition, early feeding with solid food is one of the causes of eczema, childhood obesity and diabetes.

She also drew attention to the rapid growth that can occur in a baby that is three months old. Babies may need more milk or mixtures, and it should be taken into account. Lactating mothers must remember that, according to the previous studies, they may temporarily lose breast milk at this time (the key word is “temporarily”). At the age of 3 months, there usually happens a lactating crisis, but it lasts only for a few days. There is no need to panic, introduce additional feeding and solid foods – just give breast milk to your baby more often, and the required amount will be back soon.
