Psychologists and doctors often describe the new experience of a woman who has recently given birth as baby blues. Baby blues is not depression, but a complex emotional state associated with strong hormonal fluctuations. Someone feels it straight away and very obviously, someone is affected to a lesser extent. However, no one will deny that a woman’s hormonal background is fully changed after delivery, estrogen levels drop sharply, and lactation changes the overall condition. Hence, many skin, hair and nail problems.

The woman starts feeling better 3 months after delivery, but some skin imperfections remain. That is what we will fight.

1. Circles under the eyes, eye fatigue, and swelling

Unfortunately, swelling can accompany you for quite a long time while you are breastfeeding because the body stores fluid for lactation. It results in face and eye swelling. Fortunately, if you lead an active lifestyle, everything passes before dinner. Here are some tips to help minimize the unpleasant phenomena:

  • Sleep on a high pillow,
  • Drink less before bedtime,
  • Use cooling rollers or chilled folk remedies (cucumber slices, potato),
  • Buy a good yellow or golden concealer.

2. Pigment spots

These are consequences of pregnancy and hormonal changes. The solution of the problem starts with glycolic peel (this may be a salon procedure or a glycolic acid product). Next comes a course of lightening and nourishing facial masks. It is convenient to use cloth masks, they are very easy to apply and remove. In addition, be sure to use sunscreen when going outside. An affordable option is a light foundation (liquid foundation or a moisturizing tinted cream, a BB or CC product), which contains a 20- or higher SPF filter.

3. Dull complexion

Insufficient sleep and low energy levels lead to the fact that the skin loses its natural glow and fresh look. One of the reasons is poor hydration, so make sure to use a moisturizer twice a day and drink plenty of fluids. Concentrated serum and thorough exfoliation can return skin glow. It is better not to use abrasive scrubs but choose fruit acid scrubs, they quickly restore skin glow.

4. Acne

Hormonal fluctuations lead to the appearance of acne and pimples, and not only on the face, but often on the back and chest. Salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide can be too aggressive, so it is better to look for alternative non-chemical solutions. Buy a foam cleanser for problematic skin and thoroughly clean the face twice a day. A soft face brush can be a good complement. Anti-acne products soothe the skin and treat the existing acne. You can use masks with sulfur or clay 2 times a week to unclog pores completely and balance the production of sebum.

Finally, a few simple, but very effective tips to maintain your beauty in the first months after the delivery:

1. Sleep while the baby is sleeping

Many women start doing their household chores once the baby falls asleep. As a result, when the baby wakes up and needs your attention, you feel exhausted and tired. Try a different principle: sleep while the baby is sleeping. When the child wakes up, you will be full of energy and will have time to do everything: feed the baby, freshen up, and go for a walk with your child.

2. Eat well and drink plenty

Food is important to maintain the energy during the lactation period. You need many calories now, so do not be afraid to eat well and often. It should not affect your weight because breastfeeding takes up a lot of calories. Think through your diet – it should consist of the dishes that are easy to prepare and stored all day. Drink much water or sugar-free juice, this will keep the body and skin hydrated.

3. Take a shower more often

Start your day with a shower. This procedure will help to calm down and boost your energy. Buy a shower gel with your favorite scent to get maximum positive emotions. Ideally, take a shower several times a day, for example in the morning, after a nap, after a walk in the evening.

4. Moisturize the skin more abundantly

Breastfeeding takes a lot of fluid from the body, so the skin can be constantly dry. Be sure to moisturize it with creams and lotions, as well as drink plenty of water – it also helps to eliminate stretch marks.

5. Make-up – only basic things

We do not advise giving up makeup completely because it helps women feel confident and attractive. However, use only basic products: concealer, blush, mascara, tinted lip balm.

6. Reconnect with your friends

During first months after delivery you will be occupied with new concerns. The child will certainly be in the first place. However, in order to relieve baby blues, make an effort to reconnect with friends and other family members. Normal daily conversations and exchange of views will help to recover and regain confidence. Dedicate at least 1 hour a day to yourself: watch TV, read magazines, go shopping.
