Children Make Us Happier

Researchers from the Glasgow University claim children can make their parents happier, but only if the parents are married. Previous studies, however, showed that having a lot of children makes life harder for the parents. As the number of children rises so the parents’ life satisfaction declines. This was explained by the fact that parenting takes hard and unrewarding efforts.

Dr Luis Angeles sees it differently. He thinks such an explanation would be too simplified. When asked about life’s priorities, most people would name their children among other things right away. Unlike previous studies, this research factored in personal characteristics, the fact of marriage, sex, age, income level and education when looking at the bond between having children and parent’s life satisfaction.
