Pessimistic Parents Have Genius Kids

A study by American scientists on how the capacity for creativity and affective disorders are linked revealed the depression-prone parents are more likely to have a genius child compared to optimists, reports the Psychological Science.

Genius Child

In the study, the researchers tested children for creative abilities. After comparing test scores of children whose parents were prone to depression with the test scores of children from optimistic families, they found the first group included much more creative persons.

The study authors believe the source of creativity in depressed people comes from their negative emotions that drive a person to look for solutions. Yet now researchers are still uncertain how exactly creativity is inherited by children. They believe it may be a combined result of upbringing, family traditions and genes.
